I listened to S&M this morning at the gym. There are some decent songs on the album, but I am sorry I doubt if it will be played again for some time.

Many will disagree but I only considers the first 6 Van Halen albums with David Lee Roth as the real Van Halen, though they released some of their best selling albums with Sammy Hagar.
Again many will disagree but I only considers the albums "On Through the Night", "High 'n' Dry" and "Pyromania" as the albums worthy to carry the Def Leppard name. Okay you can add "Hysteria" to that list.
When it comes to Purple all are worthy, I told you I'm bias.

Another band is Aerosmith, I dont know about you but in my opinion, the debut "Aerosmith" to "Done With Mirrors" is worthy to be called Aerosmith albums, since "Permanent Vacation" they become too commercial for me, but that just me.

I have 16 out of the 20, not having any Mk1 or S&M. One of these days I will pick up the Mk1 stuff just for completion sake. Probably won't pick S&M. The albums I own have their good and their bad. But every album is a DP album. It says so right on the cover.
Arguments can be made about various line-ups and how many critical members it takes to be DP, but really, its just the evolution of the band and they all count. Although when it was 1974 and I was 16, and Mk3 happened, I might have made a different argument. I have mellowed with age.

The mkI stuff will make you wonder why you stuck your head in the sand..
Slaves & Masters is a great album, those of you who claim otherwise have just an opiniated view of it.

Those MKI albums are great! It was this line up that got me hooked on DP. As for S&M, not a bad album. Fortuneteller is, to me the best song on it.

Concerning Mk I I think we should keep in mind that they were a young band, just starting off from zero, not having developed a musical identity. Every other line-up started under completely different circumstances. Of course the Mk I albums have their weak points, but this has its reasons.

The third album is one of my favourites in the whole story of DP. Would take it easily over Infinite which is OK but very mid paced and un - exciting to me.

I agree leelyt!. It, along with Fireball are probably the 2 DP albums I have listened to the most.
