Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
For the first time, we have IG´s statement regarding RRHOF situation - at the end of very interesting interview:

Re: Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
I don't believe it. But if it's true, I don't agree with Gillan.
Ritchie should play guitar on all the songs!
If I heard it right, they want Ritchie only to play with "one song" and the rest of the setlist is with Steve.
Steve is playing with them for 22 years, touring with them for decades, thats more than 8,000 days. Don't they have enough of Steve? Ritchie is just going to play with them for about 15 minutes! 😟
David and Glenn was also in there, it could have been more fun to play with them.

Re:
If Ritchie had wanted to play with the band, he could have stayed with them in 1993 :P

They simply have to insist on who Deep Purple at the present time are. I mean - you have a people who are even shocked that Deep Purple still exist, record and tour. So it´s logic that for Purple, they wanted to play in current lineup and invitation for Ritchie as guest to play final Smoke On The Water that night - it´s actually surprise for me, but I´m fine with that.

Re: Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
Well, you can like Steve's playing or not, you can enjoy post 1993 Purple or not, but the fact is that he's been with the band for the last 20 odd years. This is Deep Purple. Not an original line-up, and maybe not as exciting as the one from the 70s, but this is what Deep Purple has been for the last 20 years and it's natural they had to perform at the RRHoF induction. It's pretty obvious to me. However, it would be great to see (and hear!) Ritchie joining them one last time on "Smoke".

Re: Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
Interesting interview, even if there was nothing that hadn't been heard before.
Regarding the RRHOF nobody will ever know the real truth. It has been scientifically proven that the same incident will be remembered by different people in different ways, each of them adamant that they are correct. There was clearly tension on both sides, and added to this tension is RB's manager who seems intent on causing problems at every opportunity.
RB playing on SOTW seems a reasonable compromise to me, what a shame it never happened.

We had IG's statement back in February 2016:
quote: DP Inductees will accept the awards and then the living breathing Deep Purple will perform. Inevitably, this will mean excluding Ritchie, David and Glen from the live performance, but, given the circumstances, there is no other acceptable option.

Re: Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
One thing does not exclude the other - it's just a question of putting them correctly in the timeline.
The statement quoted here above was public and official, so there is hardly anything that can be doubted about that - and that was probably the initial message sent out to Ritchie, Glenn and David.
Then there was this sort of campaign to change that both in the media/public and probably also from the committee itself, so DP backpedaled a bit and sent out a message that was meant to show that they had tried everything, because everyone would have known how Ritchie would have reacted and that he would not have accepted anyway. Ritchie himself probably found it easier to walk out of this rather than compromise, so all in all I think this email that went out asking him to join on SOTW was probably a typical case of British formal politeness that assumes you will not accept what's offered anyway. To the Brits on here: don't hate me, but this is something I have noticed over the years working with many of you, it's just typical of a certain way to interact:-)

Re: Fact or Fiction - interview with IG
What I found interesting and I appreciated about the interview was that IG said that his (and DP's) view differed from Ritchie's one mainly because of the different situation and angle - that I found a reasonable way of putting it that does not add to the fire but simply recognizes that each part had reasons and truths...this is more what I would expect from wise men.
