new ritchie interview about playing together with purple again

from german newspaper today:

It seemed that you had a lot of fun when you did the Rainbow shows. Can fans hope for new material any time soon?

Ritchie: We've recorded a few tracks for Rainbow. I actually thought about writing more material for Rainbow. At the same time we're writing stuff for Blackmore's Night, which is a lot of work. We are going to do more Rainbow shows next year, maybe four or five.

If Deep Purple would ask you to reunite with them, what would be your response?

Ritchie: I wouldn't be interested, because I know that they aren't either. Maybe one show for nostalgic reasons. They are doing their thing and I'm doing mine - we are still friends.

Well losing Jon, I'm sure it made them all realize life is short and its best not to leave ill feelings on the table. I mean, if Gillan and Ritchie can bury the hatchet, I'm sure anyone can.

I think its great they're all friends again but to be honest, I couldn't care less at this point if there is a reunion, even if its for just a show.

Watching a couldn't be arsed Blackmore playing with a going through the motions tribute band would not make for a great experience IMHO so I wouldn't be interested anyway. But, between them all, I have a hell of a lot of great memories. That's good enough for me.

Put it this way. If they could not get together for a "one off" show at the RNR induction, what makes you think it will happen somewhere else ?? Not happening and I think many of us would not want to see it. It's a train wreck waiting to happen.

Knowing when to quit, is clearly a skill which many top musicians, sportsmen, actors and other celebs, seem totally unable to grasp.

To leave a legacy intact means you need to know when you are past your best and it seems in Blackmore's and Purples case he's/they've not realised that was now many many years ago and not just yesterday. They are done.

For what its worth, I'd sooner they all retired and left us all with happy memories of their true greatness, rather than watching their slow steady decline, as that's all that's occurring now. Its sad, but their time has long past.

[sign in to see URL] as long as people/fans still pay, musicians like DP and offshoot bands will continue to play. They still get good attendances.

Again - I take this as a sign they will play again. I am expecting a guest appearance and maybe sometime next year when DP calls it a day, all members past and present get together for 1-2 dates to celebrate 50 yrs of DP and put an end to world tours.

Which is absolutely the ONLY reason for all this reunion crap. It's just for the money because they know it will pay, just like the Rainbow 2016/2017 and 2018 outings. There is nothing wrong with that but the cash they earned should be offset against the damage they do to their legacy. I guess they don't care as presumably the money is more important anyway. Fair enough, who wouldn't take some easy money for doing what they do.

Problem is that now they don't do it especially well anymore!!

I'd have much more respect for them all if they said "We are actually just doing this for the money, because it pays well and the pension pot needs a booster". That would be a lot more palatable than all the utter bullsh1t about it being "for the fans" or "for nostalgia" it's just insulting twaddle. Anyone who actually even vaguely believes any of that crap needs a brain transplant!!!
