The virtuosity of Jon,Ritchie and Paicey back then was groundbreaking, inventive and imaginative.Post reunion it seldom approached that standard IMHO.

BTW am i the only one on here who doesnt think Purpendicular is a particularily wonderful album?I do like some tracks a lot ,but also find some of it dull and boring. It was new and fresh and a bit different on release, but i now seldom listen to it, and cant listen to it without skipping tracks.

I think that Purpendicular is the most overated of all DP albums. I genuinely don't understand the love for it. Morse brought in lots of new ideas that were ruined by terrible vocals and an awful production.
Clearly the band themselves also don't rate it as they never play any song from the album in concert.

When Roger signed Purpendicular to me this May, he said that it´s one of his very favourites albums, so... "terrible vocals"? IMO IG sings great on Purpendicular, miles better than on TBRO or House Of Blue Light.

Purpendicular is such a great album and I really don't understand your view.
Or maybe I do, since you are so stuck in the seventies deep purple.

So......what? Does this mean I am wrong, or that I should change my mind?
I believe that the many new ideas that were brought to the band by SM were wasted by IG'S terrible vocals. I am glad that you think he sings well on this album, but I don't.
Did you ask Roger why, if this is his favourite album, they never play any tracks from it?

Thats my taste mate, MK Morse in fact post reunion DP as a whole do not appeal to me as much as the classic era of the band. There are bands whose later output i love today(e.g. Rush,Maiden) so I'm not stuck in the 70s as such, its just with DPs work the post reunion stuff is nowhere close to the classic era to my ears.As i said Purpendicular was new and fresh at the time but suffers from being overlong and yes kinda dull at times.

OK, I see. But see my previous question, as at least RG rates the album, why do they totally and completly ignore it?

a) Comparing with HOBL or TBRO doesn't honour his singing on Purpendicular.

b) Purpendicular was easier to sing because many songs didn't need powerful vocals.

Just my own guess? I think Don rather plays classics or his "own" (since 2003) stuff - rather then "mid" stuff which was done without him and isnt "clasic"... It´s true, that last time SIFLS was done for five years ago. emoticon

That might be a good explanation, and if yes, I can understand him quite well. Especially as he did great songwriting for Now What?!.
