Re: Your least favorite(worst) DP Item
I actually won a copy of GILLAN'S INN in a contest when it first came out. The only reason this album is still in my collection is the DVD side of the disc includes video footage of two complete songs from MK 6 in concert.

Re: Your least favorite(worst) DP Item
The third album. I may get into it at some point, but it does nothing for me. Rod is so limited in range as a vocalist and this album shows it. They would have had zero chance of the Zeppelin heights that were coming if they'd stayed with him.

Re: Your least favorite(worst) DP Item
-I don't hate Gillan's Inn, though I rarely listen to it. I have it for the dvd side and because I'm a completist. As was pointed out before, I do like that version of Bluesy Blue Sea over the original (and I REALLY like the original). If I had to choose between Gillan's Inn or The Purple Album, TPA would beat it, hands down.
-Though I didn't quite know what to think about it when it first came out, I really like Abandon now. There are a couple songs I skip past but for the most part I really enjoy it.
-I just can't get into Bananas or RotD and I've tried. There are songs on both I like, but as albums I find them to be the weakest in the catalog...don't get me started on the production, especially with Rapture.

Re: Your least favorite(worst) DP Item
Probably NP or Gillan's Inn. They have some OK points, but for the most part, I rarely listen to either of them anymore.
I like the Morse-era albums. The one that I listen to the least is Abandon, but I still think that it is a good album.

Re: Re:
My first reaction was three letters.......JLT ....but my second reaction was.......er, JLT.
Yet, I quite like Slaves & Masters.
To Rick Wells - amazing how taste differs. I really like Bananas, absolutely detest Abandon and love TBRO (my fave MK II reunion album). Playing it now as a type..
To Kinski - I just pulled out Gillan's Inn (I guess I haven't played it since it came out in 2006) and will give it a spin as I had no idea that there was a DVD side as MK6 is one of my fave marks!...
Of course, it couldn't have made a favourable impression at the time then!
To JSA1 - I don't have a problem with NP.

My problem with NP is that it doesn't have anything special on it. It isn't a bad album. Gillan ain't too good on it, for the most part. The reunion stuff sounded OK, but not so much for the MKIIa stuff.
'Gillan's Inn' didn't improve on anything, really, although the DVD stuff is not bad.
My problem with Abandon is that it just a lot of album. I don't think that it went beyond Purpendicular. It has been called mind numbing, and I tend to agree with that assessment.
The reunion albums for me go HOBL, TBRO and then PS. 'Not Responsible' is my favorite tune from PS. It wasn't on vinyl, so I didn't hear it until a bit later. I would have liked to hear it in concert, but they never played it when I attended any of their shows. Too bad.

Re: Your least favorite(worst) DP Item
NR was played on the 2009 tour IIRC.
Re NP, I hated it when it came out. but TBH with all the bonus tracks, it's not a bad representation of the 1987 tour

Taste does differ, but hey, they have a lot of albums, there is something for everyone.
Abandon has a sort of special place for me. I had sort of lost track of DP in the late 80's/early 90's, didn't even know they were still recording and touring. I was in a music store (back when those still existed) and heard something playing, and said, that sounds like Deep Purple. And sure enough, it was Abandon. I bought the cd and played the heck out of it, and then saw then on the tour. Abandon does have its issues, especially in the second half of the album, but I still like it.
TBRO just sounds too much like that early 90's era, especially the production. And some of the cheesiest lyrics they have ever done. A few decent songs but overall it doesn't work for me.
