My gut feeling is that there is much more in this 'return to rock' move than money...
1 - a sense of time slipping away, and with it the possibility of playing these songs in front of large crowds. Isn't he the spotlight kid?
2 - a sense of unfinished business. After all, Rainbow was never 'disbanded' in 1997, it was 'put on the backburner' in his own words.
3 - a sense of having stalled with BN. He cannot say it openly, of course, but he may have felt the repetitiveness we often describe. Plus, he's never done the same thing for so long before, and could welcome some new challenge.
Add that to money, and you get the flurry of Raibow-related stuff we've seen lately, with a lot of live releases, his story on DVD, and of course the comeback.
1. Yes I agree, his ego will enjoy this!
2. I don't think that's a driver for it.
3. Yes it's a definite possible as well.
I think all these reasons may be involved in there somewhere, but I still think the principle reason and biggest motivator will be the vast amount of earning potential in these gigs. As before if it was for "musical reasons" he could easily play smaller shows, a he does with BN and be assured of each one being sold out and more. He has chosen to do this on a grand scale where he's playing to 1000's at a time, but doing it for big money.
It is possible that he has chosen this route in someway to compete with Deep Purple, to say "look at me, I can draw a bigger crowd than you lot". In reality, who knows, all these reasons are possible for sure but I still think money is probably the biggest factor driving the whole thing. There's nothing wrong with that at all, he's a professional, who makes a living from playing music, so that makes sense, get as much as he can from it, while he can.
Who knows for sure, but one thing for sure is these shows will have returned a decent profit for Blackmore Inc. however it's divided up. More shows will follow but probably not in the UK again, if at all ever again.
We will have to wait and see what's next from Blackmore World

Not necessarily - Pat Regan also produced Stranger in Us All. I would love to see it happen, but not as with the IS remake...make it live in the studio, but with a full band.

Yes, I know he produced SIUA, and that was one of the problems with that album.
There are probably many combining factors in this "return to rock", and I think you have some good points, but I doubt that Blackmore would stand on stage as the "spotlight kid" if he had to pay for it. And I also think that he could live with some "unfinished business" if a new Rainbow meant he was losing money on the project. (Of course he makes a healthy profit now so these are just "bonus-factors".)
As for BN having stalled...yes...it's a great time to do something else and I think Blackmore think it's refreshing as well. He seems to have enjoyed the gigs and playing the old songs again.
But IMO Blackmore should have done Rainbow in the early 2000s and then perhaps another run in 2010. That way he would still have had plenty of time for BN and both projects would have gained something from it.

Re: was that the last time
Perhaps the pristine soundboard recording is to blame, as no hiding place, COJ, Blues/Lazy and CTR all great, but I’m not finding Birmingham 2017 a great listen for the most part.
I tend to think London was the best gig on the tour, not least because he knew it was a rock audience and needed to be delivered on that level, also the band’s look, ie RB’s leather waist coat was more appropriate than the ridiculous BN garb at the 2 other shows.

Is there a soundboard of Birmingham 2017??
Not that it should matter, but totally agree about the clothing!
Same goes for germany last year - in loreley he looked like he was there to to rock. Second night he looked like a farmer

Justin Bieber fans. I was in Birmingham in 2016, and I was by far not the only one wearing a Justin Bieber t-shirt.

Right, but as the Stone free festival and a hard rock bill more so.
