The biggest mistake by Blackmore in Classic Rock's view is that he is neither called Jimmy Page, nor Slash. The rest follows automatically.

Because the band was lost. There's nothing edgy about an unrehearsed band. Past line-ups of Rainbow had an edge because they could afford to. Because they were well oiled machines.

Re: Press Reviews 2017 Tour

the band weren't lost in my view, they seemed to know Temple. Ritchie was.....as in other parts of the gig.

At Birmingham shockingly so in places, Smoke, Stargazer....although some great moments this seemed the most shambolic of the gigs to me.

I agree. There's a difference between being edgy and being just plain confused and in places Rainbow 2017 seemed to be just plain confused. After weeks and weeks of rehearsals, there would be more edge and less confusion.

I still think there is nothing wrong with the musicians in the band, everyone a solid player, but I think Blackmore can't be arsed with doing it properly. He knows he doesn't need to bother, as the people still come and see him anyway, so he cuts his costs by keeping rehearsals to a minimum. Its all about costs versus rewards on these outings. Profit over product, so corners are cut.

In the past they would have rehearsed 8-10 hours a day, 7 days a week for weeks ahead of a tour. Now its a few days here and there, so they remain confused when Blackmore goes a little off track. In the past the musicians would've been used to it and wouldn't be phased. Now it throws them somewhat!

Good point about CR.
Been a subscriber for well over a decade, and it's insane how many times they manage to have jimmy page on the cover. And slash for that matter (including zep and gnr to be fair)

Blackmore is arguably among the most legendary players there is, both in terms of playing and writing. Is the lack of coverage due to his personality?

I guess page and slash do more interviews in a month than blackmore does in 10 years

Blackmore is indeed a legendary figure and truly awesome guitarist(by far my all time favourite) ,but to be fair JP and Slash are great players too,and much more approachable for the media.

Re:

To me it has a lot to do with what is perceived to be cool and more "sellable" - and LZ are EXTREMELY easy to sell. GNR less so, but similarly regarded as cool. Hence my criticism - their overexposure has a lot more to do with fashion that with music, much as is the case in the world of pop...shouldn't rock be predominantly about music?
