Re: Brandnew Rainbow song with Ronnie Romero to be released later this year

My feeling is that this came about in a rather sponteneaus way, without thinking too much about the implications - and he should have been thinking about them!
I guess it was a case of "we have Pat here doing some BN work over the next few days, and I was thinking about these songs that would suit Rainbow best, so let's make the most of the days with Pat here and record those as well - we'll send the tapes over to Ronnie to sing on them". I think it was not malice or anything (c'mon, it's not like he would have had to pay much for the others to record two songs from their homes), rather ill judgement and a bit of an improvisation. Not justifying, just trying to understand how such a gross mistake could be made.

I think you're right here. That's also how he told it in the Burrn interview. It was a spontanious thing.

You may well be right there.

I do wonder if perhaps there is also a degree of age related "losing of the plot" in there too. For a guy who was keen to have us believe he was a perfectionist and changed musicians all the time to achieve that perfection, it all seems to have gone by the way now, judging by the concerts and these recent singles. However presumably he's happy with thing as they are so who are we to judge.

At 72 and with a financially secure situation, why should Blackmore give two hoots for what anyone thinks. He's always been his own man and so he is still today. Basically if you( we ) don't like it, as far as he cares, that just tough sh1t...and quite right too!

I'm thinking that Ritchie might never have been the perfectionist he appeared to be. There might be age related problems with it too, or maybe he just no longer cares much either.

I think Ritchie is lazy more than anything else. He won't do anything that requires hard work and focus if he doesn't have to. And why should he? He gets away with less so why bother?

My thoughts on the two singles:
Land of Hope and Glory sounds more or less exactly as I imagined the track.
The acoustic guitar. The cheesy slide. It sounds like a BN leftover which it possibly is, but marketed as Rainbow for reasons we all know.
It's a short track that goes nowhere and suits well for being played in the background while you do other things.

I Surrender. Now I actually like the song. I think Joe did well on the DTC version and Ronnie does very well here. But as a track doesn't add anything over the first Rainbow version. The production is awful as well so it feels a bit pointless. I have nothing against remakes if you add a different twist to it or do something new with the song. But that's not the case here. It sounds like it was done very quickly without much thought about it.

I hope he has a different approach for the brand new song, but I doubt it.
All words that it sounds like the early Rainbow albums could mean anything really because these albums are so diverse.

Regarding the brand new song, the smartest thing he could do would be to treat it as a demo, and record it somewhere over the next month in the studio with the band whilst they are together for the UK dates. They could just go into the studio, set up, do a few takes, then put them in the hands of a good engineer, and the result would be so much better.

David Keith claimed on Facebook that just RR and RB were in the studio. Bass, Drums and keys are just midi files.

Yes, and sadly it's too obvious.

No need for him to say that, it's so painfully obvious and sounds like a bad joke. Keith must also be disapointed, they could have his drums but instead choose an ultra cheap and horrible sounding option...
