Great stuff. I listened to the whole recording and it is excellent. It's too bad that they couldn't keep the MKII line-up together for another four or five years, as I think Lord said. So much better than MKIII. I guess if Mk II had lasted longer, they would have stagnated musically. Four years were a long time in these days. They did four albums and countless shows. Boston is a great show, but there are other recordings from 1973 which clearly show that the band were over their zenith. I think that the real problem was that Ritchie and IG couldn't come to a compromise on the direction of the group. Yes, and that has its reasons. Blackmore wanted to change the band's direction musically, away from rock'n'roll, more into blues shape. And Gillan would have been the wrong singer for that. Gillan isn't a blues singer at all, he's a rock'n'roll singer in the tradition of Elvis Presley and Little Richard. And imho it's Blackmore's good right to change musically instead of play the same stuff for years. The Who Do We Think album shows that they were over their zenith, it was time to change something. Sometimes the musicians want something else than their fans want. That's life. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Witchy Nightmare)Sat, 27 May 2017 09:16:50 +0000 Re: It was 44 years ago todayhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p509686,from=rss#post509686https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p509686,from=rss#post509686quote:Witchy Nightmare wrote: quote:JSA1 wrote: I was fifteen years old when this was recorded. Maybe they wouldn't have stagnated had they agreed to a musical direction. IG leaves and then Glover. The same problem raised its ugly head after two albums with DC and GH, but this time it caused Ritchie to leave. We got some great stuff from Ritchie and IG, but it still would have been interesting to see how they would have progressed had they stayed together for a couple of more years and albums. nondisclosed_email@example.com (JSA1)Fri, 26 May 2017 18:46:35 +0000 Re: It was 44 years ago todayhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p509649,from=rss#post509649https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p509649,from=rss#post509649quote:JSA1 wrote: I was fifteen years old when this was recorded.
