I tried to compare Birds Of Prey with any "well-known" stuff and actually, the only idea which I came up with was "crossbreed of Innuendo and Comfortably Numb". And I still think that it fits!

Re: Infinite: Song by Song

Wow guys this is difficult. So many of you I respect for your views yet (Slaves and Masters apart) I can think of no other DP album that is getting such polar opinions. I particularly appreciate Lake Geneva for his explanations with excerpts from other tracks - I thought that was my forte/flaw? Joking.
Time for Bedlam - 8/10 Rocks, playing excellent and I appreciate the lyric. PoH references are accurate but not explicit.
Hip Boots - 8/10 from the awful youtube renditions I loved this. A Purple riff and the band rocks and swings.
AIGIY - 9/10 - Could it be a ten? Maybe should be. In terms of a modern DP this is what it should sound like.
One Night in Vegas - 6/10 - Nothing wrong with the song, and does not outstay it's welcome, but no better than Paradise Bar.
Get Me Outta Here - 8/10 - I can see why people may hate this but I can't get it out of my head and it is not unwelcome.
The Surprising - 9/10 - Love this song. Would be a ten but for the guitar sound at beginning. Another song I can understand if others hate.
Johnny's Band - 6/10 - I'm being intentionally harsh because rationally I should hate this - I don't and never skip it. Well rarely.
On Top Of The World - 7/10 - From the meaty riff to the silly end it makes me smile. Not big or clever; but it is fun.
Birds of Prey - 10 - I adore this track, more since the DVD, for many reasons, but primarily Mr Morse solo. I can't say more.
Roadhouse Blues - sack the PR guy who didn't make this a bonus track on a single. Much like the JLL cover last time there is nothing at all wrong with it, Respectful, well played and ...not what I am looking for.

To conclude:
I think I wrote elsewhere that I though NW was a Purpendicular like album and Infinite a bit of an Abandon but with the excess fat cut out. I still think that and I think the two albums are quite superb.

In terms of reunion albums; and it's hard to compare any with Blackmore not playing, but anyway:
Purpendicular
Perfect Strangers - joint for different reasons yet the same
Now What
Infinite
TBRO
THOTBL
Bananas
Abandon
ROTD
S&M

Revisiting this one with associated recordings as we wait for the mighty Whoosh.
It's still a great album and I love it; with hindsight I'd say there are five great cuts (Time for bedlam, Hip boots, All I got is you, The surprising and Birds of prey) and the other five (including Paradise bar) not really fillers, enjoyable/good but a step below.
The Doors cover remains an abomination. I'd have included Simple folk on the album, as a little break somewhere.

I totally agree. Those 5 songs plus simple folk made it onto my Ipod but i actually like Roadhouse Blues (Sorry!) I think it has the same groove as "I thought no" from Accidentally on Purpose
