Chasing Shadows: The Search for Rod Evans Paperback – 19 May 2017

By Adrian Jarvis via Wymer Publishing and I can't get on their site so here is the Amazon.uk link: Chasing Shadows: The Search for Rod Evans
quote:

Chasing Shadows is the story of an obsessed fan's one-man quest to find the original Deep Purple singer Rod Evans. Evans dropped off the radar in 1980 following a legal case that buried him with a debt in excess of half a million dollars. Just like the mysteries that surrounded Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett and the Manic Street Preachers' Richie Edwards, nobody - literally nobody - has any idea where he is or what he has been doing. So Jarvis set himself a challenge: Find Rod Evans. Part memoir, part piece of musical history, part piece of musical mystery. In this personal quest the author relays his encounters with fellow original Deep Purple member Nick Simper and as an obsessive fan, all that that entails. Rod Evans remains the pivot throughout the book and when Deep Purple finally get accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it sets the author off to the Induction Ceremony in New York where he may or may not find the Holy Grail he has sought for several years. It is also about friendship and how the people we meet influence us and share the journeys on which we embark. It is a picaresque tale, sometimes comic, sometimes moving, sometimes laced with fantasy, but it is one in which everyone - or, at any rate, everyone above a certain age - will find somewhat familiar.

I didn't realize there was a thread about Chasing Shadows further down this section but at least an actual book is forthcoming. The author gave me permission to share his Twitter account to all who is interested in this subject here: Dr. Adrian Jarvis

Certainly I'd be interested to read this book, but I find the idea to write such a book problematic somehow. Rod Evans wants to stay out of public, he doesn't want to be chased, and I think everyone should respect that.

I guess I won't order it.

That's what I was thinking. If he wanted to be found, he would've shown up when he was inducted into the RnRHoS.

There is someone on this site who did track Rod down...JohnH

FWIW - I made a connection with a former colleague of Rod's(played in a band with Rod) and he confirmed that Rod is alive and well. He gave me no further info

Bobby Caldwell, the Captain Beyond drummer, said something similiar in 2015:

quote:

Q: It’s always seemed to be a mystery as to what happened with him (Rod Evans). Have you been in touch with him over the years?

A: Yeah and he’s doing just fine these days.

Now I know everything I wanted to know about Rod, so I needn't buy that book.

In a sudden, strange twist of fate I just learned of where Rod works and that he does in fact use a pseudonym.
