Jens may have played in other and more disciplined situations but he is old school and loves to improvise. All his solos have been completely different. I know there are people who think they are boring but I have enjoyed them.
I loved the first half of his solo in Glasgow, it was inventive, and seemed improvised but still cleverly put together (even improvised music has to have a structure and build to a proper climax, and this did). But it sounded like it reached a natural climax and should have finished half way into it. The second half then didn't seem to fit at all, and seemed to be a bit too random, like he couldn't figure out a structure for the next four minutes.
Of course I don't know the actual situation, but as a listener he sounded like he was expecting to play four minutes or so and struggling to fill the rest of the time when Ritchie didn't come back on.

Really enjoyed watching a lot of this show on YouTube.
It's funny how Ritchie can get to people in a live context. There's no argument really that this band is not as tight as it should be, but there is still a lot of magic. I've a friend on Facebook, as you do, who I haven't spoken to for 20 years or so, from school days. I used to try to woo her by giving her music including some Blackmore's night. Anyway, Thursday morning she has a very enthusiastic post about the Birmingham gig. The picture showed she had some naff seat in the corner at the back.
What I'm trying to say is, the guy has still got it.

"I was in the 4th row at Birmingham. There were a number of cameras on stands around the stage and a guy in the photo pit filming throughout. Cameras a lot smaller these days than the huge things of yore."
I'm happy to get anything! However, this will most likely be a very low budget thing, certainly compared to Germany last year

Not necessrily...I mean, most of the cranes and drones in Germany werennecessary because it was open air and in a beautiful scenery, which is not the case here - here, it's just the stage and perhaps a camera or two pointed at the audience.

I hope you are right!
The drones and crane shots from MIR look great though, regardless of scenery
