Re: Did Ritchie make a mistake...
But even now, he's the only one in the world who can sing all those songs.

Re: Did Ritchie make a mistake...
Coverdale's voice is shot. Can't say much more. Of course the band is playing to that fact and as mentioned above the they have been chosen because of their vocal capabilities.
I enjoyed the latest Rainbow effort, although its not perfect.
Perhaps we all need a reality check.
The Purple family is on the wane... none of them can really cut it can they? They are all old men. The sun has basically set.
We have our memories and experiences and there is nothing to replace them so there is little point getting all worked up about where we are in 2016 is there?

You make a valid point. I didn't get to see the latest Rainbow shows but I have caught up with the you tube clips and the official tracks that have been released. For me it's about attitude. The Rainbow shows feel very static, very underplayed, even with new "young" blood in key positions. Ritchie just doesn't play well although there are a few glimmers here and there.
I agree that David isn't the singer he was, although unlike many of his critics I don't think he's done or "shot". He just hasn't modified his approach when really he should. The prospect of David, Glenn and Ritchie doing something on a short term basis was an incredible one. David may well have sounded good for a short tour (he sounded great at the start of the Purple tour) and with Glenn in support it would have been great. So, it strikes me as surprising that the weakest link may well have been Ritchie. I would never have thought that.
But yes, we have the memories.
