That's how I see it too. It's not bad at all. It's just a bit of fun. Which at least most of the fans present seems to enjoy.

Neither do I understand all the need for critisicm.

But one thing's for sure: no matter what Ritchie Blackmore do these days, somebody will say it is wrong. He don't regroup Rainbow for a long time. And that's all wrong. He DO regroup Rainbow. And then that's wrong. He's true to himself and play the best of his abilities, like he always did. And now that's wrong. If he'd been a perfect copy of his younger self, that would most surely had been critizied as well - for lack of development.

But all the while critics are busy complaining, Blackmore himself, his present bandmembers and at least most of his fans (including me) seems to have a good time and a lot of fun.

But what good is our right to be critical if we don't use it?? emoticon

Got the package for Christmas.

It's OK. Better than Youtube suggests but it never reaches greatness although there are some intense moments and some interesting arrangements here and there. Overall it sounds very under rehearsed and I struggle with that singer who is technically fine but not for me.

Got it for X-mas from my sons.
Was present at the 2 German gigs, loved it.
The Yt videos didn't do justice
Watched it this night for the first time and loved it.
The tone of Ritchie's guitar, the emotions.
Saw Steve Morse about 7 times with Purple, but he'll never moved me that much. very repetive, boring, few emotions.
I think the whole band (including bass and drums) did a good job. It's all about Ritchie and his sound is untouchable.
Ronnie R is a decent singer, covering the Dio's songs quite well, but lhas little stage presence. Missing his own voice to really judge him.

Re: Memories in Rock / First Trailer / Black Night

I'm one of those "bastards" who judged the so-called reunion by crappy YouTube vids, and I stand corrected! I stand by what I said about the band being underrehearsed and not quite up to the task, but after watching the YouTube clips from Memories In Rock.... It's not all that bad. As far as I know Blackers struggled with a newly operated finger(?), but it also looks like he struggled with "inner demons" like "can I still pull this off". In other words, he looked kinda nervous. Another thing, and I stand corrected yet again, Ronnie Romero did a very fine job as frontman.

OK, I'm not pleased with everything I've heard from these three shows, but I suspect that the shows this year will be better. I know that RB has recognised the fact, by reading comments on the web(?), that the fans want more Rainbow stuff. They don't care about Purple stuff because the current band do those songs quite often, and let's be honest, way better. And hopefully they, the band, will rehearse more. A lot more!!! And that's up to Blackmore because he's the lazy one when it comes to rehearsing!

Anyway, I bid them good luck this year, and by God.... If I can get a ticket for one of the shows, I'll feckin' go!! I've seen Blackers with Purple (1993), Rainbow (1995 and 1996) and with BN quite a few years ago, and if I get a chanse to see him do those magical anthems agan... I'll go!!!

And yet again, I stand corrected!

What we saw in the beginning was complete shows. The DVD is a complilation of the "best" parts of the two filmed gigs and is a professional production so it's already "better". There were some really good moments but there were also some really weak ones.
I think the gigs this year will be a lot better. There will be some changes and I also think that Ritchie will be in better form. Hopefully they have rehearsed more and worked at the sound a bit.

Yeah, I believe that they can do better, if only they rehearse more and leave out the Purple stuff, which is indeed performed way better by the current Purple line-up. Ronnie does a very good job, but the Gillan stuff doesn't work too well for me.

The show I saw last year had some great moments, but some weak ones as well (as it has been said before). So let's hope for more rehearsal and a real Rainbow set list (Tarot Woman, Lady of the Lake, Gates of Babylon, Eyes of the world, Ariel…)!

having watched the dvd several times now, it's crystal clear to me that my opinion is correct (and having attended both gigs); Loreley is the better gig.

Blackmore's playing on the second night suffers from his drinking

I love that you feel this way, can you give some examples of why? Certainly MOTSM Mistreated, Stargazer and CTR were superb at Loreley

A lot of times he is strumming, but what comes out of the speakers are "Blackmore 70s"!!??!!! Sorry, but is it possible that something is fake hers, just to earn a few extra bucks??? Hmmmm.... I don't know!!?!!

Do you have some examples for that to check?
