Re: Purple disciples bands around the world Great thread and I was wondering if anyone found some more examples. I just joined after reading this thread in fact. I think Avatarium is a really great sounding band which deserves a lot more attention.
I think you would have to put later Opeth on this list...listen to Slither for example:
I suppose Axel Rudi Pell could go here as well as some Impellitteri and of course projects with former Rainbow and Purple members leading them (I assume people here are familiar with those).

Welcome to the forum. Avatarium are a great band. Hoping they'll tour the next album more heavily.

Opeth are a simply stunning live band. Slither was intended as a Rainbow tribute and they do it well.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out Zool and Astral Doors.
I saw Walter Giordino with Ronnie Romero last year and was impressed with him and his band.

I agree 100% on Avatarium who for example have only been to North America once to play 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. I think they sound fantastic.
I also like Opeth a lot and they are fantastic live. I am not a fan of the vocals on the early records but once they phased that out, I became a big fan.
That's cool that you saw that Giardino/Romero show I would have enjoyed that too. I saw Rata Blanca last year which was fun as well.
Let me know what you think of Zool (only one record I believe) and I would love to know if you have any other suggestions.
Are there any other modern bands like Avatarium and Opeth you might recommend?

Very cool! I would have gone had I been anywhere near it. I don't understand people in that thread complaining about it! I actually watched your videos on youtube a while back, thanks for filming those...
Well, sometimes I think BCC sometimes sound like what MkIV Purple could have sounded, in a parallel universe, where they never disbanded. Of course, it's heresy, given the absence of Lord and Paice but still.
