What did you think of the other bands I mentioned and do you have any other suggestions or even suggestions of modern bands I might given my tastes ? Several interesting names you brought up, for sure. In most of them I hear a neoclassical Rainbow influence more towards power/metal territory. I like it more when they don't lose the bluesy element that Purple and Blackmore always had. Ritchie could go from, say, Kill the king to Mistreated in five minutes or from Spotlight kid to Tearing out my heart effortlessly while younger bands clearly influenced by him are just going with A light in the black for the whole time. I agree and in that regard, I think Avatarium is the closest (along with Opeth and Black Country Communion) to the spirit of Rainbow and Purple overall. I wish that power metal bands sounded like A Light in the Black! I think the bands today sound more like bad versions of some of the later Dio band albums. Do you have any other suggestions, even if they aren't necessarily like Rainbow or Purple for modern-ish rock bands?nondisclosed_email@example.com (tribalfusion)Sat, 19 May 2018 17:47:13 +0000 Re: Purple disciples bands around the worldhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p515635,from=rss#post515635https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p515635,from=rss#post515635quote:tribalfusion wrote: quote:fdr wrote: quote:tribalfusion wrote: This tune from Black Country Communion reminds me of Rainbow & Purple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvKaASTfTwk Well, sometimes I think BCC sometimes sound like what MkIV Purple could have sounded, in a parallel universe, where they never disbanded. Slither was intended as a Rainbow tribute and they do it well. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out Zool and Astral Doors. I saw Walter Giordino with Ronnie Romero last year and was impressed with him and his band. Thanks for the welcome! I agree 100% on Avatarium who for example have only been to North America once to play 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. I think they sound fantastic. I also like Opeth a lot and they are fantastic live. I am not a fan of the vocals on the early records but once they phased that out, I became a big fan. That's cool that you saw that Giardino/Romero show I would have enjoyed that too. I saw Rata Blanca last year which was fun as well. Let me know what you think of Zool (only one record I believe) and I would love to know if you have any other suggestions. Are there any other modern bands like Avatarium and Opeth you might recommend? Sometimes mixing it with touches of Heep/Sabbath but mainly DP. You know, all the cliches, fast opener, guitar/organ interplay, (neo)classical touches, instrumental jams, etc. These are the ones I can think of right now. Would love to discover new names, can you help? Thanks in advance. -Murasaki, from Japan.
