HBO telecast
Saw the HBO release this past Saturday. Gees they really edited a good chunk of intros, induction speeches and performance (all bands were cut to 2 songs) they didn't show HS for DP.
I thought DP did a good job, they sounded good and according to a friend of mine that was there said they went down well with the crowd.
Strange during the memorial part that Jimmy Bain wasn't mentioned
Ian Paice looks to be playing with some fire again...saw him do some really fast fills and went back and watched HS on youtube and he played it real well. Saw from some clips on the Budokan show that he was playing better. Maybe he reads the clips of us complaining about him!!! Glad he did because he's nailing those drums again.
WEak part of the show was the intro for Steve Miller...was it just me or did those guys not know anything about him?? Looked like they mailed it in...very lame. Steve played well.
Actually I thought all the bands played very good.
My nominees for next year:
Rainbow - RB, RJD, and CP
Steppenwolf (are you kidding me that they are still not in??? they predate DP for Christ sakes and coined the term Heavy Metal in Born to Be Wild. Had some great songs - Pusher, Magic Carpet Ride and John Kay still performs!!)
Moody Blues
ELP
Judas Priest
and Iron Butterfly!!! IB invented platinum sales!!! Influenced DP, LZ and hosts of others.

Re: HBO telecast
The Black Keys didn't know anything about Steve Miller and they said after meeting him prior to the introduction that they almost didn't do it...as soon as they made the intro, Dan said he walked right out to a waiting cab and took off. He said SM was the most miserable s.o.b. he'd ever met.

Re: HBO telecast
That's something of a controversy, makes DP pale in comparison!

I thought DC's speech was the worst from DP members...too much crap about current WS (who I like) but was completely out of place. Glad HBO cut that.
I guess Jimmy Bain never played on any great albums...ahem
Rainbow Rising
Rainbow on Stage
Dio Holy Diver
Dio Last In Line
Dio Sacred Heart
Dio Killing the Dragon
and he went out with what I think is the best hard rock album released in a very long time Last in Line - Heavy Crown!!! That Campbell/Appice/Bain trio damn near makes up a good part of my youth!!!!Having played Holy Diver/Last in Line/Sacred Heart to death!!!!!
Going to play the new Heavy Crown to death as well..just like i did with Now What!!!!!

Well i guess that explains alot!! Not a big Steve Miller fan, but that intro for him was weak....couldn't the hall get a big fan of SM?
Lars speech was head and shoulders the best!!! Dare I say the best ever intro at the Hall? I think it was.

Re: HBO telecast
I don't like SM's music...never have, never will. I don't get all the hype about him as a guitar player either because I haven't heard anything from him that grabbed my attention. I just find him to be a bore. About the only thing I respect about him was his outspokenness in regard to RRHoF.
Lars' speech was amazing. He really was the perfect guy to do the induction. If the day ever comes where Motorhead get the nod, I can see him giving that speech too.

His early stuff was really good. 'Space Cowboy', 'Living In The USA' with Boz Scaggs, 'Mercury Blues' and others were pretty good. He got a bit too poppy after 'Fly Like An Eagle', but I always thought that his stuff was quality, even if I wasn't a fan of stuff like 'Abracadabra' and the like.

Re: HBO telecast
I think its his voice that kills it for me...idk, there's something about it that just drives me crazy. I have friend's that are die-hards and they tried converting me to no avail. One of them turned me on to Rory Gallagher at the same time though so it wasn't a total loss lol
