I´m gonna say my opinion... Main problem is how this jam would actually look like? The issue IMHO is, that GH was a bit.... overexcited and overreacting about everything regarding RRHOF, which is actually direct opposite with Deep Purple themselves who were quite distant regarding everything about RRHOF. It´s much easier to give valuable jam with instrumentalists than jam of three singers. It´s no secret, that vocally GH is in best shape. This jam would make sense ONLY if it would be some sort of "cooperative jam".... instead of competition "I´m gonna blow everyone of stage" jam. When I saw Glenn´s dress (and I think that only point of his incredibly cheesy black/white suit was being attention catcher) and knew about his "excitement".... I´m not really sure that it would work well. Glenn is Glenn - he nearly ALWAYS tries to oversing others and actually - it would be completely inappropriate at that sort of evening. Smoke On The Water is Mk2 song - there is no point to share vocals with David and Glenn in it - jam after the song... actually pointless. But that´s my take on it. I dont mean that negatively - Glenn is amazing singer, but I think we all know that he is way "too much competitive"...
I guess that Ian knew all these things when he wrote: " In fact, we would love to perform with Ritchie, David, Glen et al on Smoke on the Water in the encore jam."

It doesn't have to work ptr, it has to be fun and memorable to the audience, so what if Glenn blows Ian on stage? Many fans have heard "SOTW" and "HS" a thousand times, it doesn't have to be perfect.
The bottomline is Gillan "doesn't mean" what he posted about playing with Ritchie, David and Glenn. He really doesn't want to play with them.

Re: GH and DC - a member of DP stopped them performing
I reckon Gillan must have heard Coverdale and Hughes murder SOTW before and thought better than to have them on stage murdering it again. Good decision IMHO.
As for the hall of fame itself....I couldn't give a rats arse for it, it's the music that matters to me...or maybe that should that be mattered to me. DP peaked a long time ago in my opinion and it has been a slow decline ever since.

Re: GH and DC - a member of DP stopped them performing
It goes to show that that backpedaling exercize was just some smoke in the eyes of fans to avoid making it too confrontational, but he/they never wanted to share the stage with anyone. Conceitful and false is what comes to mind.
Having said that, ptr, sometimes your reasoning is too psychedelic for me to follow...so, denying a place on stage to 3 (!) inducted members is not too competitive, but wearing black&white is some sort of attention-grabbing sin amd "much too competitive"...whatever.

Where is ptr and lightintheblack0 ???
Im here My thoughts on the matter ?I reckon I've made it clear enough? but for those with any doubts, IMHO Ian Gillan is an ungrateful , insecure ,selfish, bitter and twisted old man who i have lost all respect for over the last 20 years or so.His reprehensible actions around the HOF just confirmed my thoughts on him.

1.) Jam is mainly (primary) supposed to be fun for guys who are on stage! Interest of audience is secondary factor.
2.) Trying to blow others on stage is in direct contradiction with main point of this induction - dignity and respect to each other. Music is not supposed to be competition.
IG is "buddy" type of musician who is known for the fact that when he sings with other singers he has no problem to share the mic - Rock Meets Classic, Celebrating Jon Lord, tribute concert for Jeff Healey...

But not within the Purple family.

But that´s relatively normal among singers in huge bands isnt it?
Ozzy wasnt "friend" with Ronnie; Rob Halfrod isnt friend with Ripper Owens; Bruce isnt friend with Blaze Bayley..... etc etc. Having a respect for others doesnt mean that you want to perform on stage with them. Some of fans have never got the fact, that (for example) IG´s not performing Mk3/4 songs is actually act of respect - those belong to David and Glenn..... as Mark 2 songs belong to IG.

Re: GH and DC - a member of DP stopped them performing
Interest of audience is secondary factor?
Pls do listen to the closing remarks on CHOHW...IG says that "you gotta please yourself, but if you're not interested in pleasing other people you might as well remain an amateur and do it in your own room"
Once that IG had shown some common sense...

First sentence of that quote is key one. I think that doing something AGAINST your own wish - just to please the audience is simply wrong.
This situation reminds me Jon´s last performance on Sunflower Jam - when Jon and Rick introduced It´s Not As Big As It Was - they couldnt find agreement whether they are going to do "one of his or one of mine" (JL´s quote)....
