1.) RRHOF ceremony got actually better response from band than this ceremonial deserved for years of ignorance, which was shown even during induction... Forgot to mention - Lars Ulrich speech - big success, he is obviously big fan... but still, mixed feeling, I would rather see Deep Purple as bunch of virtuosos to be inducted by other famous virtuoso rather than by most famous drummer who cant play drums. emoticon

2.) I´m actually in mixed feelings - it was relatively fine, but I hoped for some critical statements from Purple camp - they were all way too diplomatic, which slightly disappointed me. For journalist who gave that "controversial" question to IG - I would reply a bit different - maybe that there was one night where all problems should be put aside, but that´s not RRHOF induction (why on that charade?!), but it was Jon Lord´s Celebrating show - and it didnt happen that night.

About speeches:
- it was great to see Vicky there!
- from all the speeches, despite the way too diplomatic attitude, IG´s one seemed the best one. He mentioned everyone in DP career and it was nice to hear applause from crowd given to not inducted members - Nick, Tommy, both Joes, Steve and Don. DC´s speech got out of context when he thanked to Whitesnake members, lawyers etc.... and GH´s speech.... Glenn is Glenn, what else can I say. I still have no idea what he meant by his thanking to Roger, but it seemed really very strange!

3.) DP performance was fine, nice tribute to Ritchie from Steve during guitar solo, but otherwise, that version of Smoke was a bit more dirty than usually, Highway Star and Hush were fine. Setlist wasnt suprising, performance was good.

Agreed in most points. And I would like to know the real reason, why DC and GH didn't join. Was is band's decision? Was it their decision? About Glenn's speech: Ok, he is Glenn. But I found it nice to hear that nod to Roger. It made clear, that he and DC would never have been inducted, if MK 2 hadn't existed. About Jon Lord's Celebrating show: They played together there, but sadly Glenn was the only one, who wanted to play with the current members.

Because they weren't invited by Gillan and co.
Despite what Gillan stated earlier, asking them not to perform on the HOF but to join during the finale of SOTW.

lightintheblack0 instead we got the touring band.

They also record studio albums. So technically they're more than just a "touring" band.

Re: RRHOF ceremony - my overview

At the Glenn Hughes section

"I’m going to go on that stage and I am going to accept my award gracefully and graciously. Who knows if David and I will sing? I’m not sure. There has been no investigations on that at the moment."

"What I’m trying to get to, Jeb, is that I just got off the phone with David. We are going and we are going to accept our awards and we will sit there. If we get invited to play… we won’t even know until we get to New York. You know there is nothing we can do about it. I’ve got to be in complete acceptance of this !@#$. "

Guess that is proof enough that they weren't invited.
So that is Gillan to blame for.

Thank you. Didn't read that before. But I'm not sure who is to blame. Only Gillan? The whole band? The management? The RRHoF? I just don't know.

David and Glenn were just meters away from them on stage, they were not invited and they were not allowed to perform.

They were saying something at their webpages while doing another. emoticon

I blame Gillan for it.
In the famous statement from HIM HE said that HE had talked to Coverdale.
"I spoke with David Coverdale last week and he expressed complete understanding of the way it was being handled; thanks David you’re a Gent".

That statement got corrected after the message from Blackmore.

"It should be stressed that there is no slight intended nor any desire to upset anyone regarding this decision; it is purely a mark of respect to Steve and Don. In fact, we would love to perform with Ritchie, David, Glen et al on Smoke on the Water in the encore jam".

Can't imagine the RRHOF would object if DC and GH would join in, after all they were inducted too.

Another thing I like to bring to the attention.
During the finale of the RRHOF Roger (the gent) joined in. Where were Gillan and Paice?
Were they pissed because the press only were interested why Blackmore wasn't there? Or were they not invited.

Deep Purple is and will always be my favourite band. Only the last mark is for me the weakest link.
But they have fallen in esteem.
To me Gillan came to the induction, after stating for years that he didn't care about it, wouldn't show up, to use it as a cheap way to promote the living and breathing Deep Purple and NOT what they achieved in the past.
And that last thing is just why they were inducted.

I think that it´s whole a bit different.

1.) AFAIK set of each band were approved by RRHOF... so there were obviously some kind of rules about how many, which songs and how long each of groups is allowed to perform.

2.) I read that IG (at that time when he wrote the statement) presumed or hoped that DP will close the ceremony (Smoke is fitting song for that isnt it + no disrespect to Cheap Trick, but they have been support group for Purple) - and then they would have a chance to do some sort of final allstar jam at the end of Smoke. But Cheap Trick were final band, so GH/DC´s performance happened during their set.

I think that sometimes - some of you see or look for some sort of evil intention where it simply isnt.
