He has said for years he wouldn'[sign in to see URL] he briefly reconsidered Bruce Payne shut it down so if you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Bruce. I would've been more surprised if Ritchie HAD shown up. Anyone thinking otherwise was just setting themselves up for disappointment.

Ritchie doesn't like those kind of events I believe, and of course he wasn't made welcome, so that didn't help...

I still don't understand why Nick Simper wasn't inducted, that doesn't make ANY SENSE at all!

In the end, no big surprises at [sign in to see URL] Gillan got what he wanted (the current dP playing), RG and IP were their usual diplomatic selves, DC gave a nice "thank you" to his mentors and then started his WS publicity and GH was GH.
Nice that Vicky Lord was present to receive the honours for Jon.

Better late than never...

Disagree with that part about Bruce. It was ONLY Ritchie´s decision not to appear there, do not blame anyone else. Bruce has nothing to do with that. Band has full right to decide with whom and under which conditions are they going to play, but that´s completely separated issue with attending the ceremony and accept the awards.

I just hope that discussions about this event of 3rd grade importance for this year are going to be short. emoticon New (20th) DP album is main event for this year!

I don't blame PAIN either it's the selfish bitter Gillan Glover and Paice who obviously asked PAIN to Instruct Blackers management that he wasn't welcome to [sign in to see URL] bitter assholes wouldn't have been there themselves if not for Blackmores genius ,drive and vision . DC and Glenn had the humility to admit that and even SM paid tribute by playing SOTW note for note to the original . I'm disgusted by the remaining members of MK2s attitude they need to take a long look in the mirror
One things for sure this would not have happened had Jon still been with us

You forgot to consider main important factor. Deep Purple break-up in 76 was due to GH´s and TB´s drug abuse, in 1975 Ritchie left the band in relatively "good" terms. Therefore - DC and GH has much less bad memories about Ritchie than Mk2 members who were there during 1987 - 93 period. Plus 1993 is much fresher period than 1975. Ritchie´s character have been shown by that manipulative untruth statement released before RRHOF performance - would you even consider to perform with someone like that after this situation?! GH/DC are not members of Deep Purple, they were not affected by this disgusting crap statement.... For any argument you need at least TWO sides.

I wish I could have heard Gillan's speech a little better, but the microphone was set up for a midget. Lars? It was a blown opportunity not to have some hot chick come out on stage and raise up the microphone. I'm sure Gillan would have come up with a quick cute comment, breaking the ice for the evening. Oh well.

Finally, I've come to the conclusion that nominating Rod Evans (and not Nick Simper) was a cruel joke by some of the folks who run this show. Seriously. It's as if they wanted to see if inducting Rod Evans would bring him out of the woodwork. Very odd. IMO, he didn't deserve induction; especially with his actions of the short-lived bogus Deep Purple in 1980.

Apart from that, the whole thing was handled perfectly. Blackmore didn't show up, keeping the rebel attitude in clear view. Everyone else who was inducted (apart from Evans) did it for the fans and their families. Also, bringing Jon Lord's wife on [sign in to see URL] to hold the award was a beautiful touch. Also mentioning Lord's name numerous times (inc. Lars) was a wonderful thing to do.

I think he's paid his price for that error. Forgive and forget?

Ritchie's hardly the first to not [sign in to see URL] Pistols didn't, McCartney didn't, Axl didn't, Van Halen brothers didn'[sign in to see URL] don't know why people seem so surprised.
