The current band is the band right now .Has been for years .Ritchie , from what I know about him , wouldn't set foot on stage with the other guys short of dragging him on with a truck and chain. The show is not just about DP .What are they going to play anyway ? Smoke ? And that's it ? Probably. BFD .So go on and on about no Ritchie , no Purple. They can't induct Airey or Morse .But the band doesn't want to leave them out completely. They've been touring as equal members for more years than Ritchie played in the band . I go back far enough to remember people huffing and puffing about Peter Green leaving Fleetwood Mac ."IT'S THE END OF THE BAND " Well about 6 members later, there was still a Fleetwood Mac. BTW .If you go back and look at the songwriting credits for all those great classic DP songs before perfect strangers . It says , " Paice , Lord , Glover , Blackmore, Gillan " So they aren't Ritchie's exclusive property . But there is no use trying to convince the faithful .Cheers .

The point your missing is that despite the length of time SM has been in DP as JSA1 says nobody knows DP for their post Blackmore work. The Fleetwood Mac comparison is daft as FM went on to become huge AFTER PG left ,Thats most certainly not the case for DP!!BTW yes the songs all went down as group compositions but the fact is that 9 times out of 10 its was Ritchie who came up with the ideas and after all it was Ritchie who chose the direction the band were going to take. And as i said before thats coming from his bandmates not from me or any other fan.

If nobody knows DP for the post Blackmore work, how come, that Now What went number one in Germany and as I mean to remeber some other European countries? Even Rapture was int the top ten. And nobody knows the band for the post Blackmore work? Can you please eyplain taht? Did all these people buy the records and didn't listen to them? How come that some of the new songs get a cheer from the audience, when they hear the first notes? Because the people don't know these songs?

I remember that Ted and SIFLS were both recieved as classics when I saw them performed...

BTW I remember one big Purple fan (between 40 - 50 years) from our country who travels around the various countries (he saw much more DP gigs than me) and he honestly admitted, that he had huge respect for us ("young ones") because we were able to sing with IG even new stuff (not only classics) - like Vincent Price, All The Time In The World, Above & Beyond when we saw DP during summer leg of 2013 tour. He closed it with great sentence which made me "proud": "you are proof that what this band does still has a meaning!" - and I fully agree with that, main goal of this band are not charts.... but being able to generate new young fans! Music connects people through generations. I dont remember the particular gig (it´s going to be few years back, 2009 or 2010), but I was stunned when I saw dad with two boys (about 10 years old) who were enormous DP fans (what a great parenting!) - me and my great DP friend were standing in front of them and we decided to let them in front of us (because we both are about 190cm and they would not see anything) - and we "examined" them about Deep Purple facts (from basic ones to very difficult ones!) - 100% perfect knowledge.... we were stunned, because they were even able to correct us! I remember that they suprised me by their question whether I remember the city and venue of Mk2b last gig from 88.... emoticon I had no idea, they knew precisely! And when they started to discuss whether Roger is going to play Smoke with Rickenbacker or "only Vigier", and why Steve has turned his amplifiers compared to his standard setting (we didnt notice that before) - we were lost for words.... Would love to meet them again, after those years! They were 10 or 12 at max!

hmmm? that doesnt seem a bit freaky or nerdy to you ptr??

No, as they both were learning to play guitar - I wasnt suprised they have bigger knowledge and interest about that than myself. emoticon

If they were received as classics, why did they drop them in favour of classics of the 70s?

Strange

This is wrong attitude IMO - song from era 1 vs. song from era 2. It´s about whole set ballance, its flow, impact, set order... emoticon

Do you think that the set is balanced well?

Which one? emoticon You need to be at the show to understand how well set works, so I´m not able to review the last set from fall 2015 tourleg (the one with Bloodsucker as 2nd one). Set done during NW?! tour was well-ballanced, I just think that it was mistake to change order - Vincent Price worked better when the song was part of that section Apres Vous - Into The Fire - HLM - VINCENT PRICE - Strange Kind Of Woman. Changing this order into SKOW and then separated Vincent Price was mistake. VP is some sort of... lonely orphan in this way. It really worked much better when it was part of that 5 song section.

For example what dp344 mentioned: Taking Mk Morse era classics (or what people think to be classics) out of the set and replacing them by Blackmore era classics. Is there a Mk Morse era song existing which gets played as regularly as Highway Star or Black Night?

Re: JLT calls out DP fiasco re HoF performance

This weekend on NATIONAL RADIO, not a classic rock station, people could ask songs to be played from their favourite albums. Didn't have to be singles or what so ever. Songs that are considered by the listener as their favourite.

I heard old and new records.

Among them Child In Time (part 1 and 2) and Smoke On The Water.

Maybe there really are "two categories" of classics. emoticon I would say that SIFLS is played approximately as often as Woman From Tokyo. emoticon
