After Rival Sons tourdates for earliest part of European Tour were cancelled I was slightly disappointed because I was afraid of another terrible local support act. At last - we got great support before Deep Purple set - german band The Whiskey Foundation played their half-hour sets and both were stunning gigs. Sadly I heard that part of their instruments were stolen from their tourbus day before Ostrava show - so their 1st impression from Czech Republic and people here must have been terrible. Sorry guys - I hope that Police will find your instruments and you will get them back! And also I hope that you enjoyed those shows (despite the fact I can imagine how difficult it must have been to enjoy the show after such a terrible situation happened).

I LOVED both Deep Purple sets! Truth is that this set is finally based for us - loyal fans who loves recent material and I heard some people grumble about "absence" of Highway Star or more hits.... I DO NOT CARE about these guys! You had more than enough chances to hear classics before! Apres Vous - great start, Demon´s Eye - that´s song where Gillan SHINES!!! He is instantly recognizable - what a unique voice! First obscured stuff, Hard Loving Man - other obscured stuff - and then go back to new stuff. Very LOOOONG section of Mk8 stuff! New instrumental piece / SUPERB Uncommon Man / Well-Dressed Guitar, ok - little break with another obscured one - The Mule.... and then let´s continue with NEW stuff. BRAND new stuff - yet unfinished, unrecorded, unreleased! WOW how exciting to hear that! Song reminds me mix between TBRO and Abandon stuff - I´m very interested how it will look or sound on new album (if it´s going to end up there - it´s still unsure!). Continuation of Mk8 stuff - SUPERB energic and HEAVY versions of Silver Tongue (blows 2010/11 versions away!) and let´s go to the end with this section with Hell To Pay. Let´s go to keyboard solo - again with some Dvorak and Smetana - Vltava as usual and what´s next? Where is Perfect Strangers? Another dropped classic! How brave decision! The Battle Rages On.... Steve messed it a bit in Ostrava so maybe that this led to decision to try something else on the very next show and they did very nice version of Pictures Of Home which brought very funny moment when IG "forgot" to sing right after Steve´s guitar solo, because he obvisously expected Don´s solo coming after that.... but it wasnt - it was supposed to be played AFTER the 3rd verse. They have a lot of fun on stage, they all (especially Rog and IG) starts to chuckle because of this slight confusion and then - we finally go to please "general audience" - with final hits. Space Truckin´ - what an energy and Smoke On The Water.... nothing to be said. Leaving the stage for a brief moment... and here we go again - with Hush and Black Night couple. Enjoyed that long improvisation between Steve / Don.... and loved Steve´s final solos at the end of both Black Nights. Ok - shows number 16 and 17 are over - when the next show will come? Hopefully very soon, next year with brand new album!

BTW - I guessed that there is going to be change in the set in Pilsen because stage was ready for DP show when one of techs came to the stage, carried "original" setlist away and came with new one!

P.S.: Job for fans on upcoming gigs - when you meet the band, try to ask Steve about the name of new instrumental song!

Totally agree with you, ptr! I can't remember many dates when they played only one song from Machine head, like happened the other night!

The setlist looks very good. They once tried a very brave setlist like that during the first leg of the ROTD tour in early 2006 but sadly dropped it after one or two shows. It's a pity we had to wait twenty years to see tchem performing their own, that is Mk7/8's songs.

They actually played this type of show (as you describe) for whole Jan - March 2006 tourleg. It wasnt about two shows. emoticon

Maybe someone is watching this forum and is taking our "suggestions" seriously? Sadly, we'll never get a setlist this awesome in the States.

Fantastic review, ptr. I hope this setlist can stay long enough for the London gig next month, but I don't believe it will.

First sentence of concert report in one of Czech rock magazines:
"I would like to crumple, crush and throw away the playlist of my favourite band (DP) done at the start of their European tour."

Later the report says that author "doesnt understand how band can drop songs like Highway Star or Lazy" - he even wrote that NOT doing these is "in contradiction with common sense".

So that´s probably the answer for your question why those songs returned later....

Otherwise - the Pilsen concert is rated 5/6 - with setlist only major problem.
