As for the RJD versions of Mistreated then I loved them.Ronnie had the vocal talents to cover ANY kind of music he was an immense talent.Dont understand the no soul comment at all?Dio sang many tracks throughout his career with great soul and passion.
Ronnie was a great singer and remained so until his death. He was great at rock and ballads but in my opinion he had a missing element when it came to blues and soul. His Mistreated was powerful but didn't have the guttural strength of David's vocal, imo. I listen to it occasionally.
I also think there are plenty of Dio songs David wouldn't sound right on. Technically he was probably a better singer than DC, especially live but I'd still take David any day. Same with Glenn.

Well just have to agree to disagree wojak
I do actually prefer the DC versions of mistreated with deep purple but preferred rainbows versions to whitesnakes. As for Glenn Hughes well it's all about ott oversinging with him I'm afraid

Great, thanks for sharing! And I agree about RJD:s voice not having soul - power, yes - soul and nuance - no.
What a missed opportunity though - especially since I share your obsession with MkIV...

"(I didn't tell him that I actually loath the Rainbow version, as I find Dio's voice completely and utterly soulless!) "
You have a talent for blowing things.
Rainbow always had the superior versions of the song.
