The best albums of 2014, your personal list
Hello all,
It's been a while since I have last posted anything on the forums.
I decided to end the silence with this very traditional kind of topic.
Namely, what were your personal favourite albums from last year?
My list would look like this (not in any particular order):
Stam1na - SLK
Opeth - Pale Communion
Jere Ijäs - S/T
Blues Pills - S/T
Flying Colors - Second Nature
Celtic Legacy - The Lie of the Land
Poets of the Fall - Jealous Gods
Ian Anderson - Homo Erraticus
The Sixxis - Hollow Shrine

Hello Niko
I was positively surprised to see Celtic Legacy. I thought Dave had stopped that project (I just checked their website). I have no list myself though I didn't get any new music in 2014.

Pink Floyd-The Endless River
Real Estate-Atlas
Flying Colors-Second Nature
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds-Live at KCRW
Led Zeppelin-the reissues
Jon Lord-Celebrating
The Beatles-The U.S. Albums
There weren't too many new albums I really bought this year...most were reissues

I think we all were also very surprised last autumn to hear that CL lives on. The new album is great and rivals Resurrection as the best CL album. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Re: The best albums of 2014, your personal list
I'm afraid I didn't get many new albums.
Blues Pills (see separate topic in Non-DP section); I like that album
Rated X - a very good album from JLT and the boys
The reissue of the decade is Bob Carpenter's Silent Passage, recorded in mid-1970s but never properly reissued until last year. This album is simply brilliant.
Great to hear CL have released an album. Have to get a copy at some point.

I have to get my hands on that Bob Carpenter album! I listened some songs on Youtube and they sounded great.

I'll second that. Well-produced, great songs and performances. Definitely a serious contender against Resurrection.

Re: The best albums of 2014, your personal list
Haven't heard too many, but of those I did hear/buy, here's the order I'd rate them:
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Hypnotic Eye
California Breed – Self Titled
Judas Priest – Redeemer Of Souls
Mastodon – The Sun Thingy
Weezer – Everything Will Be Alright In The End
Bruce – High Hopes

My fave by far;
Flying Colors-Second Nature
Others worth noticing are:
Transatlantic - Kaleidoscope
Royal Southern Brotherhood - HeartSoulBlood
Gotthard - Bang
The Quireboys - Black Eyed Son
On the live front, the two that were by far above the others are Tedeschi Trucks Band and Flying Colors, while for emotional reasons the Celebrating Jon Lord concert was also one to remember. A lot of other great concerts, but I fear it's not the point here !

I didn't include Kaleidoscope in my list while I find the album to be good, it is a carbon copy of the previous ones. It is a good solid effort but not excellent for me.
On the other hand Second Nature was a step forward for Flying Colors, what an album.
