California Breed - Trecco Bay 5th December
Glenn headlined the Planet Rock rock stock festival on the Friday night.
We's already had a brilliant line up through the day, including Gun and Joanne Shaw Taylor- who proved one of the highlights of the whole weekend.
Glenn and co hit the stage at 10-30 with a set of CB album tracks.
Things took a turn when after shouts for Burn and other Purple classics Glenn made a pointed comment along the lines of " I'm looking forward, I'm making new music I love".
Things rapidly deteriorated after that, when 30 minutes in Andrew Watt threw a wobbler. Declaring into the mike...."I'm not playing another note until someone sorted out this f***ing feedback".
After five minutes of another CB dirge, the guitarist simply walked off stage left. Glenn followed without a word and the drummer gamely did a two minute solo before leaving to a chorus of boos and heckling.
After a few adjustments by roadies and some scurrying about out the band trudged, Glenn 'gave us all his love' and they carried on....the moment however was lost and many of the bemused audience wandered away as the set proceeded. By Burn the crowd was noticably sparser.
The problem Glenn has is the dilema of whether to focus on new music or mix things up with a few of the classics from his productive career. Trouble is, personally I dont think the new CB material is strong enough to allow a focus on the new and the future.
Set list- The grey/Chemical Rain/Sweet Tea/Scars/Strong/Spit You Out/Medusa/Invisible/All Falls Down/Days They Come/The Way/Midnight Oil/Burn.

So is Watt any good? Does he sound good live? What was he referring to as the "feedback?" Was the feedback really from too much noise, or was it because he didn't like the "feedback" from the audience yelling for the old songs?
I'm getting a deja vu feeling here for California Breed ... sort of like what Purple went through with Mark IV, just on a lesser scale.
