Creating our own Live in 1984!

Spurred on by our musings and recollections on the 1984 tour, I have set out to gather a selection of the best

Best of course is subjective, but I mean sound quality, performance wise, and to give a breadth of coverage. Especially to include Galley and Lord. But to be an overview of the tour. So I'll finish with a couple from Rock in Rio.

Last time I was into collecting 'bootlegs' it was swapping cassette tapes in the 1990s! I'm sure its something others have been doing, especially in the light of DC's bootleg effort. I'm hopeful I can do a better job than DC too.

So first additions to this have been an excellent Glasgow gig (where DC tells the folk Slide it In 'was all about fruit, banana's and stuff') and one from Böblingen. Both from March so have the 6 of them sounding darn good.

Any thoughts of any favourites others have from the tour I should be looking out for?

Re. Glasgow, there's an audience recording of the full show and a shortened Radio Clyde professional recording. Think the audience one is called No Hibernation (from memory).

Re Glasgow- I have the audience recording of that show and gave some of it a listen yesterday after playing Live in '84. Sykes was not as prominent when Mel and Jon were still in the band and the songs aren't played as frenetically. I think that once Mel and Jon had gone, Sykes guitar was the main instrument- which resulted in him milking it to the max- e.g. the horrible guitar solo in WITSOTB on the Live in '84 release. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I thought the band's sound was much better before Mel and Jon departed. Sorry- I've gone somewhat off topic here!!

Thanks Chaps - the glasgow version I have would be the Radio Clyde version and I can't imagine why this wasn't chosen after DC's extensive hunting for bootleg 1984 music. Songs feel better, as has been said it seems a tad slower, less of Sykes covering 2 guitars and Jon helps too.

Exactly Stuart. And let's face it, if it was intended to pay tribute to Jon, Mel and Cozy, it would have made more sense for this to be released, or at least to feature. Mel isn't on any of the recordings on the Live in '84 CD. I am glad that the CD/DVD was released, but at the same time it feels a little like a lost opportunity.

The Japanese version includes one song more from the European tour, but it is also without Galley from Stockholm, April 14th.

Most of the Glasgow versions are either lower quality or have an interference from a second radio station (audible in Soldier Of Fortune). Maybe that were reasons not to include this show.

There is another FM recording available, but St. Gallen is also the 4 piece band.
