When A Blind Man Cries

Does anybody know the reason why Ritchie avoided to play that song live? He won't do it on stage.

Who knows about POH pure stupid if you ask me,
one thing about the way they play it live is that
the riff is helped along by the organ.
This is not the way Ritchie and Jon worked onstage
and that riff is a hard one on it's own.

As for WABMC I think Ritchie found it boring,
his solo part is exciting but I don't think the song
on a whole,got him off. emoticon

Re: When A Blind Man Cries

I've never heard a very good (to me) explanation for the omission of such obviously (again, to me)great tracks from the setlists. Might've just come down to the power struggle between Blackmore and Gillan. If one wanted to do a new addition to the set list, the other probably nixed the idea merely because it was suggested his "rival".
I do seem to remember criticism of Blackmore's "blues" playing on "When A Blind Man Cries" - from Blackmore himself... and Gillan saying that he thought that Randy California did a better version during the one-off gig he played with Purple in Quebec City. Who knows? Maybe Blackmore caught wind of the comment and simply decided out of spite to never allow it to be included in the setlist. I think that set lists were (again) something that was decided by unanimous vote in those days. We've all heard (I think) from both camps - Blackmore's and Gillan's - blaming one another for the rather rigid set list MkII stayed with for too long...

I have an interview with Ritchie admitting he better not do too many interviews because he tend to say a lot of bullshit. emoticon emoticon

Quote from Ritchie himself;
‘We tried ‘Pictures of Home’ -which I liked a lot on the record- but it never seemed to work out on stage. It was that six-eight fill.....but we did it and I was watching the audience. They were like: “Yawn”.’
