I wish they would remix it and replace some of JL's synth patches with Hammond organ. His solo in Mad Dog is the main contender here. Mitzi Dupree is amusing. RB is phenomenal throughout Spanish Archer.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Viciious)Tue, 27 Oct 2020 15:23:22 +0000 Re: HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p521181,from=rss#post521181https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p521181,from=rss#post521181quote:Al Erikson wrote: I just can't listen to Perfect Strangers anymore. Although the songs are good, the production sounds awfully cold. Shame Roger never delivered a good remix of it... Now, Perfect Strangers is a Deep Purple album. THoBL is a Gillan / Blackmore album (to me). I can't agree here. I have always viewed PS as a Rainbow/Gillan album. HOBL is way more Purple. I like the songs better and you get Blackmore/Lord interplay that basically didn't exist on PS. HOBL suffered from a kind of slick production, which didn't work. They should go back, totally remix it and fix the production issues. It could be turned into a real hot LP if they did.nondisclosed_email@example.com (JSA1)Thu, 21 May 2020 16:53:47 +0000 Re: HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p521161,from=rss#post521161https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p521161,from=rss#post521161I always thought the video of Bad Attitude showed the coming split. The rest of the band gets up and leaving Gillan alone.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Concrete god)Sun, 17 May 2020 08:48:16 +0000 Re: HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493127,from=rss#post493127https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493127,from=rss#post493127I just can't listen to Perfect Strangers anymore. The freshness of Perfect Strangers had completely gone. And the saddening atmosphere of the songs is emphasized by the lyrics. Bad Attitude has the line "Things have got to change", and Gillan was right. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Witchy Nightmare)Sun, 27 Sep 2015 20:12:31 +0000 Re: HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493025,from=rss#post493025https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p493025,from=rss#post493025It's not only in the lyrics, but I always see HoBL as a final duel between Gillan and Blackmore. The mix is really a furious dialogue between the vocals and the guitar. Glover arbitrates and Paice blows on the ashes. Lord is at the bar...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Al Erikson)Mon, 21 Sep 2015 10:15:27 +0000 Re: HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p476042,from=rss#post476042https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p476042,from=rss#post476042I assumed Bad Attitude was, I'll have to re-read the MD & SA lyrics, though to be honest I pay closer attention to RB's playing in that than I do the lyrics lol Definitely not the first time Ian wrote about Ritchie while he was still in the band though as Smooth Dancer will attest to lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (RatBatBlu)Tue, 14 Jan 2014 14:17:22 +0000 HOBL songs and beginning of an end?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p476039,from=rss#post476039https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p476039,from=rss#post476039I have listening to HOBL and there are lyrics can easily be read as references to emerging problems between Gillan and Blackmore in particular. Some parts of Bad Attitude, Mad Dog and of course Spanish Archer in general. Whilst these are 'merely' song lyrics, I think Gillan (and Glover) realised a break-up was looming behind the horizon. The album is very good though.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Tue, 14 Jan 2014 07:25:48 +0000
