Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
One of my very favourite bits of the JLT era is a recording from Poznan 1991, where JLT starts singing Fortuneteller at the end of Truth Hurts (the highlight of the set) to a magical - true Deep Purple - effect.
Can you guys remember other shows this medley was performed?

Re: Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
I wish I could've seen that! Fortuneteller was another song I would've liked to have seen live! I've been looking for this boot everywhere and can't find it.
Funny you posted in this thread today also because I was listening to "Stroke of Midnight" again and I DEFINITELY prefer it to "One Man's Meat".

Re: Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
I've still to hear SOM. S&M is so much better an album than TBRO, and IMO, save maybe for Purpendicular the very last effort Deep Purple aiming forward, not turning to the nostalgic past. The album, well not the album but JLT in Deep Purple, was too much at the time. Now, I think it's the best post-reunion album save for PS.
JLT knew it was hard to win the fans over. But he tried, and did a great job. I think he just tried too much to be a hard rock singer when singing the Mk2 stuff.
Here's the Poznan clip. I love it.

Re: Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
I bought that bootleg "A wither shade of Purple" for ridiculous money a long time ago trough Lost Horizons in Japan (anybody remember that shop?) I think they did it only once that night, as far as I know. Ritchie is toying with the riff also in Udine, Italy September 1988, before Lazy ("Thunder on the water").

That intro gives me chills...pretty much every version of Truth Hurts I've heard from this tour has!

Oh yeah, same here! And the way JLT starts Fortuneteller... Like him or not (I do), he's a complete pro.

Thanks, Fdr! I remember the name of the shop, didn't order anything as it was too expensive at the time.
I found that Poland 1991 boot in a second hand store about 15 years ago. Still have it, a great show.
Dug out the S&M special issue of MBTP. The article says the medley was also played in Copenhagen. Do you guys have this show, can you confirm?

Re: Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
Poznań gig was first purple show in my life. i was about fifteen and was there in front of the stage in terrible mob traffic. Probably all safety rules were broken and number of people in the hall was probablymuch exceeding hall capaticy (good 90 ties in poland). Show was late couple of hours as band flight was delayed due to severe wheather conditions.
It was probably one of the most memorable shows also for purple as, poles went wild and showed almost histeric reactikn as the show started .
At the end after encores jon Lord gave very emotional speach and said thank you to all the fans. I do not remember he did such a think on any other concert.
It was very good show and even Turner was not able to destroy it. The most magic moment for me must be intro to difficult to cure. Concert was videotaped secretly and it is the source of video and cd bootleg.
For me personally after this concert Dp became my favourite band and remains as such to these days. Funnily when burn started I did not know the song, as back then I had only mk 2 records on tapes and slaves and masters album

I like Joe as well. He was the first Rainbow singer I ever got to see live even though I did have the RJD albums, so I didn't really have any preconceived notions. Had I seen Rainbow w/Ronnie (or even Graham) first, then I can see why the fans might not like him as much (if at all as is the case in here with some people). He's still the best singer Wingwang ever had.

Re: Truth Hurts - Fortuneteller Medley
JLT is a fantastic singer. More bluesy and soulful than any other Purple family singer.
