It's certainly very cheap to download the album from Amazon in the UK, if you're into downloads. The only thing I would say to be aware of is that the quality of the recordings here are of variable quality-there are studio recordings on the release but others are relatively rudimentary recordings. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Old Timer5)Wed, 04 Sep 2013 11:31:36 +0000 Re: Whirlwindhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472342,from=rss#post472342https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472342,from=rss#post472342Cheers 344 and Old Timer!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Tue, 03 Sep 2013 20:26:49 +0000 Re: Whirlwindhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472335,from=rss#post472335https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472335,from=rss#post472335quote:Old Timer5 wrote: I've bought this bit am finding it hard to get excited over this release. Much of the material has been released before by the Bolin Archives- the Energy studio tracks, the acoustic Wild Dogs, Sooner or Later, and the demo of Alexis. Then there's the James Gang demo's which are in fact exactly the same versions which appeared on Miami, but with no vocals, therefore Tommy's guitar work is exactly as on the Miami album. There are also frankly workmanlike versions of Cucumber Jam and San Francisco River on which Tommy's playing is not as good as on other versions which have been released before. I don't have the acoustic tracks (apart from Wild Dogs) and these are of the standard of similar tracks released on From the Archives Volumes 1 and 2- interesting but far from essential listening. For me personally, the only really interesting items are Gotta Dance (a new version taken from the Private Eyes sessions) and Marching Bag. I appreciate that there is limited material left which has not been released before and some people are glad to get any unheard Tommy material released. However, if I was a young guitar player who had never heard of Tommy Bolin, there would be nothing on this collection that would persuade me he was an exceptional talent. Therefore, I don't think this release does anything for Tommy's legacy. For someone like me though who doesn't have the material you mentioned, is it worth it? nondisclosed_email@example.com (RatBatBlu)Tue, 03 Sep 2013 15:02:26 +0000 Re: Whirlwindhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472332,from=rss#post472332https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p472332,from=rss#post472332I've bought this bit am finding it hard to get excited over this release. I was very interested in the 26 minute Marching Bag, later renamed as Marching Powder. Further I think it is a shame he didn't do the vocals on the Energy tracks. I love his voice. nondisclosed_email@example.com (dp344)Thu, 22 Aug 2013 17:23:52 +0000
