Re: Milano
Well, I mean most bands can recreate a lot of their studio tracks live, especially the prog bands like King Crimson, Yes and Genesis, even Queen (with the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody and they came up with a pretty clever way of handling that). Plus Queen had 3 guys (counting Freddie) that could sing anyway.
I guess I should've worded it differently; I just think that if you choose to do massive overdubs on a track with an instrument (or voices) that you'll be lacking live, it'd be silly to put that song in the set. A lot of people want to hear the song live exactly like it is on the album. On a song like Hell to Pay they could pull it off as they could make that their audience participation song.

Re: Milano
regarding "hell to pay" I think this would work well live with an extended instrumental section and would be a good replacement for "space truckin" as we all know Mr Gillan struggles with that one.

I disagree with you here slightly. Records are an art form in itself. You use effects which are not possible or easy to duplicate live, at least without backing tapes. But live, you do it differently.
Rush use backing tapes successfully because they're all about recreating the records. I don't think we'll see taped backing vocals with DP though.

Intersting, that Rush thing. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but I'm sure their fans love it.

Re: Milano
Rush has a touring orchestra with them on this tour...well, orchestra is a strong word. Its more like an extended string section but from the videos I've seen it sounds incredible. Only reason I didn't go this time is because they had a LOT of songs in the set from my least favorite period of the band.
