Re: The end of BCC

It seems Glenn's new band will be announced within the next month. And going by Bonham's recent FB status it will be him, Glenn and Andrew Watt. Sept 17:

"I'm in my Studio writing this week with Andrew Watt for a project we are doing together with Mr Hughes !!!!"

Don't know much about Watt but I welcome a trio. Then they can compete with the Winery Dogs emoticon

A friend posted the link a few weeks ago; I'm looking for it now, but it came from one of the U.K. guitar mags...Total Guitar I think. As soon as I find it again, I'll link it.

It can't be true that he's said something like that...

Best living blues guitarist? LOL.

I listened to an album of his last summer. It was a decent effort but completely average at the same time.

Yes, he has taken the world by storm by being average. It's strange.

Yeah. It's about timing and marketing really. Maybe Bonamassa has sort of reached or even created a new audience for that kind of music.

Like I said, my impression of him is based on his latest album. It was a professional deal of course, but I found it nothing special. I saw Robert Cray last summer and Bonamassa in not even close of being at that level.

Re: The end of BCC

Bonamassa's studio albums just plain bore me. He has this "Clapton 70s middle of the road appeal to the housewives" vibe about them. His live performance is a little more firey but I don't think any of it comes close to what he was playing on the BCC records (and live shows). It wasn't through lack of trying (pre, during and post BCC) but I just can't get into it.

What happened to the days when bands would go into the studio, play live and put it down on tape? The recordings had this sense of urgency about them. Led Zeppelin's, Black Sabbath's even Van Halen's debut albums were done in a matter of hours and the only overdubs were solos and some vocals. All of the over-compression doesn't help either.
