Cheers once again, RBB!

Smith has the CJ Strat? Wow, hope he's not selling it to just anybody, like the Stone Cold Strat - let alone modify it.

Yeah, I didn't know that either! I'd leave them as is but still play them like crazy! I'd hate to think of them changing hands and someone altering them from what RB did.

New Cooky Insight

Knebworth was a huge show we did witnessed by what I believe was more than 100,000 fans. Although it was reported to be less or more depending on who you believed at the time. All I know was there was fans for as far as the eye could see from the stage! The crew had arrived a day or two before this show from the start of the tour in Sweden where we played three sold-out shows in Stockholm and then one sold out show in Malmo. We stayed in a small hotel the day before Knebworth and that morning arrived at the gig where I actually had to walk thru part of the crowd carrying 4 of Ritchie's main guitars.

We had taken a taxi from the hotel and couldn't get all the way to the backstage area. Little did the people I was surrounded by realize whose guitars these were!. There was so many people there it was amazing. We set up the gear the night before and there were already close to a capacity crowd camping out. Our bus almost got bogged down leaving there the night before. The day of the show was dreary and wet and I distinctly remember meat loaf getting hit in the face with cakes of mud during his set! I also don't think he fit in on this show as fans were also throwing plastic bottles filled with their piss in his direction! It was so crowded in the front of the stage that fans in front couldn't get to the toilets or didn't seem to want to lose their place so they pissed in these bottles! Also on this show was Alaska, Mama's Boys, Blackfoot, UFO, the Scorpions and of course Deep Purple.

I was amazed that we only did this one show in England, but it was a great show and the fans came out in huge numbers. There was another festival going on not far away on the same date with U2. It didn't seem to effect our ticket sales, that's for sure. Another thing I found amazing was that there was no roof on the stage! How was this possible? in England of all places where it rained for days before and after this show. I do remember the weather changing as we went on stage and it cleared up a bit. Ritchie wore wellington boots on stage as the whole backstage area was bogged down with mud, but the show went on as scheduled and everyone had a great time. It was also great to see our laser show where the beams seemed to go on forever into the night sky during "Perfect Strangers" or as Gillan liked to call it the Perfect Street Rangers.

Here's a pass from Knebworth and my dear friend Yoko who came all the way from Japan to see this show and me!

Cooky says:

Here's Ian Broad, Ritchie(in dog mask) and me St Austell England July 1981. Notice Ritchie's sweatshirt. The broken guitar tour!! We had these shirts printed cause he was on a spree of destroying guitars. It wasn't the name of the tour, but he was enjoying himself so much doing it. At the time I was really getting good at making his smash-ups playable and he got right into it!!

Cooky really needs to write a book! People on the page keep telling him but I don't know how interested he really is.

He really should!

Cooky Crawford: "Spaghetti Plates and Smashed-Up Guitars: On the road with Rainbow and Deep Purple"

I'd buy a copy.

I don't know how well Jerry Bloom's book sold, but I bet if Cooky did one it'd do pretty good. Especially if he not only told the stories, but went into more detail about Ritchie's gear, which Bloom's book didn't. There's still so much not known about the man.

Not really true. There was a poster at this forum, he's banned now because his parents had not thought him manners, who knew everything about Blackmore. Everything about the gear, without even seeing more than the other punters have. He could re-create some of that gear even if in reality, the stuff had absolutely nothing to do with Blackmore or his gear. But it was all genuine anyway. Must be cosmic.

Speaking of which, he also knows exactly what Blackmore thinks and feels, and it was very handy that he knows when Blackmore was telling the truth and when he was lying.

So he should write a book about Blackmore. Then we'd all know. but wait a minute, that would make him (the author) ordinary. So I guess we must hope Cooky writes a book which goes on to shed more light on Blackmore.
