Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
Why can't RB and IG put their differences behind them, at least for this show. Ritchie has stated recently he wouldn't mind playing DP and Rainbow songs as he is proud of them. Wouldn't it be nice if RB put Rainbow back together for a small tour and maybe even do a few shows as co-headliners with the current Purple line up? Of course it will never happen.

Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
It's more up to Gillan at this point it seems. RB said he would for a one-off special event, Gillan said he has no interest and since he holds the reins now...

Gillan can sure hold a grudge.

Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
He can but evidently according to him, Ritchie did "something horrible/unforgivable" to his daughter...what that is, we'll probably never know.
I mean, to anybody else it could be minor or trivial and Gillan is just being over emotional about it. Hard to say without knowing what transpired.

Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
The thing is, they don't have to play together on the stage at the same time. Ritchie can call Jens Johansson, add the bassplayer he normally works with in BN and ask Paice to rehearse and perform with him, having JLT sing some Mk 1 material, Burn, Mistreated and Lazy or some other Mk 2 material. Would be great. But I'm pretty shure he wont show up.

Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
From that radio interview Ritchie and Candice did last fall and everything I've read since, Ritchie has let bygones be bygones with Hughes and most extraordinarily Coverdale, inspired by the loss of Jon (and also Cozy and Ronnie for Ritchie). If that gap can be fixed, then I'd say its not Ritchie that has the problem with Gillan, its Gillan that has a problem with Ritchie. Ritchie even recently said he would do a one-off with them and Gillan said back in the press that he has no interest.
I don't know if he speaks for Don, Paicey or Roger though...they haven't said anything.

Normally a toss is who gets to go first, or who get to choice whether they go first or second, eg bat first, kick with the wind, etc. Hopefully this toss isn't winner takes all but who plays first and who arrives during the intermission.

Re: Jon Lord Memorial Service, October 2013
Maybe someone needs to remind Ian G. that the tribute is for Jon Lord, not Ian G. Certainly him and Ritchie can be in the same building at the same time. They don't have to talk, they don't have to play together. Is it that hard??

Agreed, its a tribute to their fallen band mate and friend, so it'd be a shame to see someone's bruised ego ruin the whole thing. Like you said, keep them separated and they can appear on stage separately if Gillan has such a big problem. Who knows, the spirit of the evening could be enough to at least repair a broken relationship.
