Re: ?!

Yesterday, was chatting with the sis and mentioned - can't remember the context - that Sabbath just released a new album. She said she knows. I then said so did DP, and she went, oh, is that so.

She's younger than me and into newer bands like the Muse. But I suppose that she knew about Sabbath but not Purple releasing an album goes to show Sabbath has a higher profile in the sense that they recording an album is bigger news. Of course, a large part of the 'hype' comes from the line-up that did the album, namely Ozzy (bigger star than the rest of Sabbath and DP combined) being there.

Exactly. Sharon did her job (and a great one) of making Ozzy a household name (as well as a clown with that awful tv show The Osbournes) but anytime he does anything, there's a full-on media blitz. Whether DP chooses to have a low profile (can't imagine why they'd want to) or not, I'd say coverage of this new album has been soft by most band standards.

If Ritchie had decided to return, this album would be all over the press just like Sabbath is through no choice of their own...they'd just pick it up and run with it.

Agreed.

Returning to Now What, the same favourites holding on.

Above and Beyond has risen to top tracks. It's such a nice tune in every respect!

Weakest tracks Hell to Pay (it has become a 'skipper') and Body Line (this is now the defining Walk This Way, Morse-era standard groove).

Maybe they enjoy the low profile, it must certainly be more plaisant to be able to go places without a couple of body guards or having every move you make commented on the net.
Paice commented on that in a recent interview.
I wonder if part of Ozzy's alcohol problem is not the excessive amount of fame and pressure put on him.

Oh I'm sure it is. I've met Sharon on numerous occasions and she's always been a really sweet, really nice lady. However, there are enough stories behind the scenes to know she's a ruthless shark of a business woman (just the whole mess of removing Kerslake and Daisley's tracks from the first two albums alone AND without Ozzy's knowledge is extremely shady). I'm sure the stuff that's printed about her alone is enough to send Ozzy to the bottle, not to mention all the other pressures he's under.

It would be in every guitar magazine known to man alone; "Ritchie returns to rock n roll!"
