Re: Is DICK CLARK a real Deep Purple fan?

To be honest, I don't know much about this Dick Clark guy, other than what's been talked about on the forums.

What does strike me is that holding on to a piece of vintage concert footage (by whichever band) this long, is counter-productive. If it were released now, who would buy it? A few thousand fanatics (like us).

Much as most of us love DP, their general popularity is unlikely to increase, and will certainly never match the commercial successes of the past. Had this been licensed out a long time ago, the copyright owner could have got top dollar for it, and a lot more fans would have paid to see it. That's my logic, anyway. emoticon

Maybe it's the same thinking that would lead someone to pay for a painting they know they can't display to anyone else but themselves? You know - "I've got it and no one else can have it!"
Maybe Dick Clark himself has no idea what he has in the way of inventory regarding tapes of every band, and the decision either not to sell or to make the price prohibitive was made by a single accountant or an accounting department?

That's kind of what I was alluding to. That's the third time today I've used that word. I'm-a-gettn-reel-smart.
Maybe the little bit that has been exposed is all that's left after the television edit and someone, somewhere has the complete show, maybe even Warner Bros, or like you said my equine friend, an accountant (I'll add the next part) who has since deceased and it's buried in his basement along with some of his more embarrasing transvetite apparel never to be unearthed again.

I know of a Purple film collector in Sweden who has the
full show and his collection consist's of over 100 peices of Purple footage, including two different video's of
the Stuggart 1993 show.I'm trying to get to the point of doing some kind of trading with him,but it's very hard to come up with anything he doesen't ALREADY have.
Maybe my production of the Berlin and Basel show's on one
dvd will intice him?????????

Well Mr Micstand - From what you've already said, I gather you're the proud owner of a very fair collection of Purple material yourself, and if YOU don't have something to tempt this Swedish collector.... well, how many hundred blank CDRs do we need to offer????? emoticon (BTW do you accept blanks for boots?? emoticon emoticon emoticon )

I'd be willing to chuck in a fair few to your bid if you could persuade him to stump up a single VCD of the Hofstra gig emoticon (Make that TWO, I want one!!!) I'd love to think it could happen emoticon

Or maybe if some of our Scandinavian agents could supply him with Agnetha's phone number he'd be more compliant....?

Sadly, Ritchies strat's post above seems to be a more likely explanation emoticon If the original film and sound were readily available, why not 'sell out' before now, and make a killing?? Just because someone owns the rights doesn't mean he has the physical property in his personal safe, more likely it's listed in some accountant's portfolio to make him seem richer or hold some future bargaining position.....and nobody bloody knows where the original is. emoticon

Does this Dick Clark guy have an email address?? Could 300 emails in a week from this forum make him stump up?? emoticon

I don't know what it is, but I'd be surprised if in this day and age that Dick Clark Productions doesn't have a website, email or something along those lines...after all even a talking + typing horse has found a way onto the "worldwideweb"! emoticon

Typing horse emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon hahahaha you entertain me
with such a great sense of humor toward yourself.
I'll have to read your average post's more often,
you sincerely crack me up. emoticon

-----------------------------------------------------------

Nighthawk,I'm a serious collector and I do blank's for postage deal's.
However the person in Sweden I speak of is a vhs only man
and is a film collector before being a music collector
but he is a huge Purple fan.
Getting film from him takes having fair trade bait and
with his inventory being as large as it is,that poses a big problem,I'm working with him though.
Another problem is he doesen't transfer them from pal
so I've run into another problem there,so I would have to take the footage accross state line to my bro's house to do the transferring, making the whole thing very time consuming, but as I said I'm working with the guy and we'll see what I turn up in the near future.
Meanwhile if your looking for trades maybe I can help you,
just ask Brian,I'm pretty generous. emoticon

Retraction
going back over his gigantic list,I see he only has the 20 minutes worth of Hofstra.I guess that's all there is in circulation, his list is so big that it's easy to read the
line above it or below it,when checking the length of the show's,
My mistake Nighthawk. emoticon
