Re: Ian Paice and Forever deep

As far as I know, Paice simply isn't interested to play something else but DP songs. In an interview a long time ago, he said: "Music - for me this is Deep Purple."

Re: Ian Paice and Forever deep

I think that is a sort of laziness from Paice. And he is'nt exactly at a stage in his career where he has a lot to prove. But would'nt it be more exiting for him to play something else when not playing with DP? Some big band swing stuff or what ever..?
Playing DP songs with bands a little less good than DP does not sound that exiting. And most people would probably consider time off a good chance to get away from the daily musical routine and songs - and do/play something else.. Or just relax. A bit strange it is.

Re: Ian Paice and Forever deep

Maybe he just want to play with others that admire the songs DP created.
People that are motivated by DP
An enormous ego-boost.

Recording with others can turn in every direction.
- Ego tripping only interesting for the musicians themselves and maybe some diehard fans.
- New music with the risk that fans don't like it
- Dusting off old songs, with also the risk that people don't like it.

The road he chooses is a win win situation: the fans and the musician involved are pleased and his ego gets a boost.

Must have been a fine evening!
Did Paice play on all the tracks with Forever Deep?

Yes and as much as he played well on the Purple stuff he seemed to me to be really enjoying himself on the jam sessions!
They had two drum set on the stage so the original Forever Deep drummer joined the fun for the encores with a kind of drum battle/duet during Black night. In the end there were 9 people playing on stage!

The album is out, finally:
Paice guests on three tracks (one is a fabulous instrumental not too far from Colosseum 2 stuff or Cobham "Spectrum"
Don Airey on two.
Tolo Marton on two.
