Also Billy Ray Cyrus (Mullholland drive)-again not really a rocker, I know.
Elvis...
Yeah, but he counts here. The division between rock, pop, blues, country, soul etc. isn't important here. I just used "rock" in the thread title. It could have just as well been "popular musicians". People who first became known for their careers in popular music, not the other way around (i.e. actors who cut a record).
Desperatly Seeking Susan (1985): Madonna plays the title character.
Elvis, indeed!
Let's not forget all the wonderful people in Blues Brothers (Aretha, Ray Charles,...).
Kris Kristofferson is also in a bunch of movies.

Lemmy in "Airheads".
Isn't Ozzy in Dogma? I know Alaniss Morissette (sorry for the spelling) plays God in that one.

quote: Singing Bear wrote:
Bob Dylan has a fine film pedigree:
'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid'
'Renaldo and Clara'
'Hearts of Fire' (actually shockingly bad)
'Masked and Anonymous'
Plus docs 'Don't Look Back' and 'Eat The Document' (never officially released).
Add "Catchfire/Backtrack" (released under both titles) with Dennis Hopper and Jodie Foster
edit: come to think of it, Bob Dylan also appear in "I'm not there" even if the title suggests he's not. That's Dylan playing the short, intense harmonica solo at the very end.

Re: Films with rock musicians
Two-Lane Blacktop - James Taylor & Dennis Wilson
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny - Dio, Meatloaf & Dave Grohl
Zachariah - The James Gang and Country Joe (a truly bizarre effort, this film. Billed as The First Electric Western. You can see a clip of the James Gang here, along with a drum solo from Elvin Jones!)
