Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
I do not thing that NWOHM assotiation is valid except for the timing and activity concentrated in UK. It was varied music. Prog element was evident little punk feel in fast songs, hard rock, and blues as well. There are songs which can be considered metal but the same can be said of other DP outings.

Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
Yeah, it was pretty varied. I think the company - Virgin - tried to promote Gillan as part of the NWOBHM, which was a fairly good move.

Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
Compile a sampler of Glory Road and Future Shock and it will sure blow anything made by the Morse era out of the water.
And if you are a real MK 2 fan you MUST like :
Roller
Mr Universe
Secret of the dance and so on.
I think putting out Double Trouble was a mistake.
The live disc pulls the impact of the great studio disc down.
Magic : Purple Sky, Breaking Chains, Bluesy Blue sea.
How can one not love them?

Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
For me, Fighting Man sums up the best of band the best. It's just awesome. One of my favourites is also Restless.
Even though Magic was a weaker album than the eariler ones, it has it's highlights. Especially Living for the City. Along with Superstition by Stevie Ray Vaughan, my favourite Stevie Wonder cover.

Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
I go back and forth between which version of Bluesy Blue Sea I like better; Magic or Gillan's Inn; the GI version is definitely heavier...but sometimes I like the rawness of the Magic version.

Whitesnake any time! But then I like Ian Gillan Band much better than Gillan.
Never listen to Gillan.

Re: Whitesnake VS Gillan
Whitesnake vs Gillan, totally different bands. Mr Universe is a fantastic record, better than anything WS did songwise. But as someone said earlier in the thread, the rhythm section of Gillan wasn't that good. Haven't thought of that before, actually. Paice & Murray beats Underwood & McCoy any day of the week, but also almost everyone else too. It swings.
Two great bands, but Gillan is the most interesting.
