Re: anyone care for bossa nova?
Still don't hear anything with the amazon sample. No piano...and the rhythm is just a drum machine not very well programmed...

To purpletemple:
Go to:
http://www1.nickthenightfly.com/Compilation/Default_3.asp
There you can listen to a MP3 version that's a different cut from amazon's.
(You may have to unzip it first, though.)

Re: anyone care for bossa nova?
I like bossa nova. It is a pretty good version too. Maybe DP will try it live!

Re: anyone care for bossa nova?
Hmmm... Maria Moita was composed by Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes. Vinicius died a long time ago (21 years, I think). I'll do a deeper research on that.
I couldn't find out when it was composed, but in 1964 Nara Leão already sang it in a festival. According to a Carlos Lyra interview, the introduction was composed by... Tom Jobim.
Here are the chords for the song: http://www.mpbnet.com.br/musicos/vinicius.de.moraes/letras/maria_moita.htm
The lyrics in English are here
You should hear the Smoke on the Bossa I recorded once.

Verrrry interesting. This has the potential of leading to all kinds of discussions/threads.
Anyway, are you sure the riffy part is actually integral to the original song? Maybe the Lyra/Moraes composition only what's going on in the verses.

Re: anyone care for bossa nova?
The riffy part was added after 1962, via a suggestion by Tom Jobim. I'll interview Lyra tomorrow to learn when that was. In that interview I linked, Lyra says he liked so much Jobim's contribution that he made it integral to the song right away.
