It would be my favourite song if...
Additions or subtractions or whatever else; what holds a certain track back from being your favourite?
"Fireball would be my favourite track if it had a guitar solo instead of the bass solo"
"Smooth Dancer would be my favourite track if it was more accessible and hear it more often instead of finding it on WDWTWA - needs to be on a Best Of or the radio (planet rock)"

"Clearly Quite Absurd" could be my favorite tune if, at the 4:43 mark, Don Airey would cut loose with an extended, July Morning-like epic 5-6 minute organ solo.

I think anything by Deep Purple Mk-Morse might sound good with completely different arrangements, riffs, lyrics, guitar, organ and singer and add a little attitude. Or as Morse admits what the band is seriously lacking...Image.

"Hard Lovin' Man," if not for that wall of noise which is the keyboard solo that eerily sounds like a slew of stray cats mating.

Soon Forgotten would be my favourite track if everyone would do with the song what the title claims.

CHILD IN TIME.... if only the song ended after the solo. The second repeated verse and second crescendo are unnecessary and deflate a great effect when the killer solo ends so greatly.

I agree! Or, have the verse again but not the second crescendo/screaming part.

Re: It would be my favourite song if...
Wouldn't necessarily make it my favourite but I've always felt that Blackers' solo at the end of Sail Away ruins the end of the song. By his usual high standards it lacks imagination, sounds lazy, uninspired and to these ears just doesn't fit. Would be better if it faded earlier.
