So I see you prefere JLT over Gillan then,
if so,then your problem with Deep Purple is obvious
and you'll never come aroud.
Bury it then and move on with yourself, there's obviously
nothing left there for you,accept___past glories. emoticon

Oh________ and something to !@#$ about. emoticon

Well if Gillan would just stop his annoying attempts to scream, I'd be far happier. He's lost it, and can't hear it himself. He still outsings JLT, but actually JLT screams better than Gillan these days (that the rest of JLT's stuff is annoying (to me) well, is the only reason I don't prefer his outputs to DP's)

Fair enough
I'm in agreement that Gillan need no longer scream,
and frankly I wish he would keep doing it.
What I meant about JLT though is only in regard to his stint
with Purple and he certainly didn't scream weel on S&M
but it takes nothing away from my felling's about that album,
I happen to like it and probably alway's will, and I have
very little if nothing bad to say about JLT.
I do however think he was not the best choice for replacing Gillan when he did,who should have IMHO maybe
that can be discussed sometime between us.
It does raise a good question. emoticon

Re: Whos happy?

AT risk of being contentious and causing upset I reckon Jon Lord knew exactly what was comming and saw what was happening and did the sensible thing and left. He still is very friendly with Blackers and they were the brains in Purple right from the start. Now neither of them will want to see damage to the back catalogue sales being caused by keeping the thing alive when it's past it's best!

Bottom line is that all these guys great players as they maybe are gettng older and it starts to show in their performances. Even Ritchie great as he is, may have moved into the Medieval stuff for reasons other than totally just musical taste. Maybe he's got arthritic issues, it does happen to 58 year olds, maybe he knows it and knows he can't tour night after night now etc. Ian Gillan is no longer a great rock singer in his 20's he's an old guy in his mid/late 50's and his voice reflects it, he can't hit the notes, he smokes and hasn't got the lung capacity to do it like he used to. Paicey still gives it large but even he hasn't got the same sparkle or stimina. Roger Glover is much that same as he was 20 years ago, that is he was old then so now he's aout his right age ! At a guess Don Airey and Steve Morse can't help themselves from wanting to keep it going, after all it's got to be a reasonable earner while it lasts and if they can build a back catalogue for the future then it's cool. Don Airey is apparently also going out on tour with Graham Bonnet as a Rainbow Tribute !! So at a guess he's in it for the cash mostly.

Having listened tonight to the web cast show AVO Switzerland with Deep Purple Live, I can't beleive how bad they sound. I haven't listened to Purple since Ritchie left and now I know why. They don't sound like Purple, the guitar sound is all wrong, the keyboard is not quite right, the vocals are dire, the bass and drums sounded right, but otherwise.......no way is this Deep Purple as it was, nor even close to it. They ought to retire after this tour and do something else.

Sorry if this upsets some people it's not intended to. It's just meant to be realistic and dispassionate not critical, all the people are great players, just now they have peaked.

Realize this
your wrong about Jon Lord.
The webcast you speak of,
I have it captured and empeged and with my technology
it sound's and look's as good as any video they have released, believe me the quality of a webcast without
capturing properly can take a massive amount away from the performance result's.
First of all the sound is very bad and second the video quality is shot,my version resembles TV and better than stereo quality.(READY FOR DVD)(AND VCD)
This show on my hard drive look's and sound's
magnificent(.)(THEY ARE TIGHT AS EVER)
I have only one complaint about it and it's Gillan's slight rasp, but he was nice enough to apoligise for it.

I know what I'm talking about I have atleast 20 to 30 hours of Purple and related footage.
Not to mention I've seen them 9 times in three countries
and I'm happy to say I haven't witnessed one single bad show.
I'm very sorry for anyone who has caught them at a bad time during an extensive tour.

As I've stated in another thread BTN,your opinion is alway's welcome but don't expect it to go without arguement. emoticon

FatLarry: As ever I don't expect my views to be entirely popular in this regard or to go unchallanged and that's fine, that's what a forum is all about, the exchange of views both in agreement and not !! I keep it clean and respectful, if a little forceful and hope other will do likewise. I accept what you say about the quality of the AVO streaming download, however like you I've got proper copies of some shows eg COme Hell or High Water some 10 years ago. Then, 10 years back, IG's voice was very far from brilliant and now it's shot, you can hear it as he struggles to reach and sustain a note. Again it's not a critisim, just a fact of life, the guys is getting on !

Like I wrote about Jon Lord unless you know him, you're only guessing and who's to say your guess is right and mine wrong, or vice versa, it's just my opinion.

Something I've noticed about gigs and this is from a playing them perspective is......when people are at a gig and the band is playing and the lights are going and the lasers and all the rest, the average punter is unable to concentrate just on the music, because of everything else, and hence the whole experience, viewed overall seems to be very good and it seems like the band is brilliant. Later, next day when you listen to the recording made off the sound desk and there's no distractions so you can really concentrate on what is actually playing, you hear how it;s not quite a perfect as it seemed the night before!! I've seen this time and again over a number of different bands, including my own. Now this also explains why so many bands do overdubs to their 'live' albums to make them better and it also explains why Video and DVD is prefered for recorded live stuff, becuase again you have distractions to keep you busy. I don't know FatLAry if you're a player or not but if you are you'll understand what I'm on about and certianly other players here will know exactly what I mean !

I'm not a player but I have been around long enough to
be inclined and have been collecting recording's
since 1978 and I have a massive collection.
I also have many friend's who are sound tehc's and I've spent many a show at the sounboard and heard the result's from sounboard recording's.
Not to mention I have studio software and I've also witnessed many a soundcheck.
So why don't you post some mp3 link's of your music?
I would be happy to give you a listen,if you don't have the
technology to do so then, well that speak's for itself. emoticon

FatLarry: You sound like you think you're being attacked here which you're absolutely not.

However, with all due respect, because you're not a player yourself there are certain things you can't experience no matter how many recordings you've collected, soundchecks you've attended or bits of recording software you own. Other players will know exactly what I mean. Also I really don't want to bore the forum with an exchange of equipment lists or have this turn into whose got a bigger 'home studio', to be honest I've really got more to do than that.

This seems like a good forum and in expressing a view here, that's all I'm here to do. If it doesn't agree with your view that's just fine, that's what forums are all about, peoples views, but please don't turn this into something it didn't start out as.

That's not what I'm doing at all,you write something and I write something back with a difference of opinion.
Plain and simple,I will alway's do that when I feel I don't agree with something.
I don't feel attacked and I'm not attacking you,
I happen to spend a fair amount of time here because I carry my laptop and post here whenever I get a chance to.

There has been a staggering amount of spare time here in the warehouse that I manage,so I spend a lot more time here these day's.
I'm one of these Rock fan's that never turn of the music in my head.
A person who enjoy's music is not too teribely different from someone who play's music.
We all put our pant's on one leg at a time,
do we not?
Playing the guitar gives you only a slight edge over someone who may even love music more than you do.
I grew up watching and listening to my brother who has been
Playing since 1974 and he is an advanced classical and rock player,it's been in my life as long as I can remember.
This gives me an inclination that maybe even you don't have. emoticon

Deep Purple have had this
(what you refere to as a new sound)
for almost 10 years now so what do you mean it doesn't fit,
what is there to fit,it's been this way for so long
I don't see what you mean?
Maybe it's because it's new to you?
