Re: Another 100 Greatest Guitarists List

I don't think I was too harsh, and "liking" him has nothing to do with it.Perhaps I'm making an incorrect assumption, interpreting that as some sort of "personal" thing, and if so, ignore that sentence preceding this one. I speak of the guitar playing. I've thought of Hendrix as overrated for over 34 years now. He's certainly not #1 - to me. As stated, Top 20 - but that's it. And of the potentially thousands of guitarists anyone could choose to consider, Top 20 for anyone is by no means an insult.

He was good in his day but I find it difficult to accept him as anywhere near the best in todays polls.

Hendrix certainly had a control over his guitar, almost like Blackmore, where it seems that he and his guitar are as one. He had a tremendous aura about him, but his playing itself was a bit sloppy,(which was his style) and hidden under distortion and phasers/flangers. He basically stuck to his blues roots, which isn't really stretching. But a good writer and showman that's for sure. Probably the most exiting to watch next to Blackmore. I think he deserves top 10 (taking everything about him into account), but is still very overrated as a guitar player.
I don't change the station when he is getting played.
