Re: Another 100 Greatest Guitarists List

Indeed a better list than the Rolling Stones, and I like the idea of listing the 'guitarists' as such, with focus on "originality, influence and technique", and not popularity.
This list is fine, me thinks. It's quite clear that in the authors eyes all these players have something unique and great about them, and and there's no major leaps in quality from one to the next.

One question to the comments so far, what the heck is wrong with Ace Frehley?
Of course I agree he's nothing close to Blackmore, but as they say: "Ace just always seemed to know what would sound good.". I think that is a very underrated ability. The brilliancy of doing just the right thing, and then even make it sound easier than it is, is often overlooked. I'll say that's a reason Blackmore is often forgotten from such lists, one mistakes the easyness of copying a simple but right riff from the genius of making it. Here such values are considered, and both Blackmore and Frehley are in the top ten. I like that.

I'm sorry but I can't take anything posted on a site that includes a section for wrestling seriously....

Even though Blackers is at #2 I read the list and it's only slightly less iffy than Rolling Stone's one.

And if it's printed on a site that includes a section for fans of fat men in lycra underpants shouting a lot and pretending to fight eachother then I don't think that list will stand up in any argument.

Well I completely agree with your view on wrestling, I just didn't notice. I focused on the guitar-parts, and espescially on the criteria of 'great players', which I like. I may not agree 100% with the list, like where's Steve Morse? Joe Satriani? Johnny Winter? Big Jim Sullivan??
But there's no way to please everyone, is it?

You're right, but it's obviously the personal favourites of whoever compiled the list and it's not a very credible source, you can't exactly point to it in a debate and say "well he thinks Ritchie Blackmore is worthy of such a high place".
