When I first joined the 'old' board, I assumed every song title/album name/band member handle would have been nabbed - hence my Whitesnake's Trouble track disguise. I'd better get some ZZZZs in now - I just hope I don't have that recurring nightmare where I wake up at 7am and find out what Cher really looks like before her make-up team get to her......... nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nighthawk)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 01:19:26 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24486,from=rss#post24486https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24486,from=rss#post24486Okay that's kind of a long story...but to make it short. I was born in 1970, so I didn't buy MIJ when it came out. But my brother who's 11 years older than me did, and since I was always in his room, I was listening-or hearing-dP's recordings probably since the first month I was born. Now I clearly remember goin with my parents to a store and buying CTTB when it came out, and also I remember receiving for my 6th birthday DP III and Stormbringer...Those were the only two dP albums that I was missing at the time. I also remember buying CIT (Ian Gillan Band)when it came out(or very shortly after) and being very confused about it being a dP album or not (you know being so young and hearin Gillan's voice and CIT and having that big DP sticker on the front cover...). The JCS thing is a bit different. It is only 5 years ago that I bought the album.I'd heard it before (when I was a kid, and didn't like it...not Rock'n'nroll enough I suppose ), and never got myself a copy.I always assumed it had been released before CIT (wasn't it in 71 ?)... As for your nickname...now that I know that it's somewhere on the album, I'll probably catch it the next time I listen to MIJ, but you also have to know that I listened to MIJ and all other dP's albums for years and years without understanding a single word that was said!I only learned English a few years ago... Voila toute l'histoire, mon ami!nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 01:08:49 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24485,from=rss#post24485https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24485,from=rss#post24485Purpletemple, since you have been listening to MIJ for so long maybe you can tell me where I got my handle?(FLAHC) It's in there somewhere if you didn't already know. I TOO HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO IT SINCE IT CAME OUT AND I'M ONLY JUST APROACHING 40 THIS MONTH. How can this be you ask? Because I grew up on them in the house and got off to a very early start cause my folk's have good taste in music. Btw to correct you from a previous post(Poor Boy Hero) if you baught CIT when it came out then you were certainly old enough for the release of JCS because CIT came before JCS. I read your post's carefully and you need to get your fact's straight. nondisclosed_email@example.com (FatLarryandhiscar)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 00:48:27 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24484,from=rss#post24484https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24484,from=rss#post24484Well you know what?....YES! But(because there's always a but...)I don't especially like the re-master version (except for the bonus tracks).I think it's because I'm so used to the "older" sound and I don't like the fact that things have been cut out like "Ian Paice on the drums..YeeeS!". But then again I have that "problem" with all dP's albums, where I've heard them so many times in the "original" version, it seems like there's something wrong with the re-mastered versions (like the endings on the MH...). For me those are different albums, I couldn't sell my old records because I bought the re-mastered versions. nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 00:44:14 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24483,from=rss#post24483https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24483,from=rss#post24483  It's just the greatest, ain't it?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nighthawk)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 00:33:01 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24482,from=rss#post24482https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24482,from=rss#post24482Okay...now can I say what I REALLY think about MIJ?...just kiddin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Thu, 13 Nov 2003 00:25:14 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24481,from=rss#post24481https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24481,from=rss#post24481Someone else here has a nice catchphrase - "It's about music" - that sounds good to me. I didn't mean it in a bad way...maybe it is a screw-up maybe not...I don't care because the intro is BRILLIANT with that addition... So yes there , definitly, I was being cynical when I said "no wonder this album is so bad"...because for me MIJ is the best album-and not just Live album-EVER RECORDED!I've been listening to MIJ for 28 years now and still enjoy it every time.In fact, as a tradition, the first thing I do EVERY YEAR on new year's eve at 12:00, is listening to MIJ!I HAVE TO START THE YEAR WITH THAT MASTERPIECE!!! So again, sorry if some of you were offended by the term I used and yes the rest was just plain sarcasm, because sometimes I like to tease. Still it doesn't answer the question...was Blackers really sick on that night or is it a story to magnify the legendary MIJ ? And to answer Nighthawk...yes I have Live in Japan with all three nights, I have the MIJ Lp, Cd, remaster Cd, tape... And maybe Ritchie ain't perfect...but on those three nights They were all perfect!Or perfect together....the magic was there, and thank God it was captured for us to enjoy for the rest of our lives! God bless MIJ with all its greatness and "screw-ups!"nondisclosed_email@example.com (purpletemple)Wed, 12 Nov 2003 23:18:42 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24477,from=rss#post24477https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24477,from=rss#post24477For purpletemple (and everyone else who's posted) I'm cool about this, because it fascinated me for ages too. Made in Japan was my introduction to Deep Purple as a naive 13-year-old, and it just blew me away! That LP album is the reason why, 30 years and a lot of grey hairs later, I am here and still enjoying the banter between Purple fans all over the world. Why did Ritchie break out of the intro to SOTW on MiJ to do some off-beat bridge-slapping before getting into the riff?? You'd have to ask him personally. Maybe he spotted from the corner of his eye that another of the band wasn't quite ready to carry on, or needed some adjustment to the sound gear? My very humble opinion though is, that the experimentation and extemporisation within the band was still alive in 1972, and that Ritchie really enjoyed mixing up the formula to keep every single member of the band on their toes. And that he wanted to be the 'joker in the pack' when it came to live performances of music that he was (very possibly) already tired of. May I ask, do you have Live in Japan? If so you'll know how difficult it was for the band to fly in to such a far away country, do three gigs in two venues, then head off to do more work elsewhere. If you don't have it, just beg, steal or borrow a copy - it is SO worth it. You'll hear the band, mistakes and all, as they sounded to the audience on those nights. Just check out how many times Ritchie drops out of the music because his guitar has become serious detuned.... I still believe that the version of SOTW from 16/8/72 when RB seems to 'screw up' the riff intro, is due to him breaking an upper string. But he carries on, and an acceptable product is delivered to the audience. And I stand by my statement that on many occasions he's chosen to vary or alter his notation to try and inject some freshness (or indeed just make it up as he goes along) Ritchie ain't perfect, he's made plenty of bloomers (that trill during the Bach stuff on Powerhouse! yeucch!) as have thousands upon thousands of other musicians - But MiJ represents the best this band could possibly have produced under the circumstances. Fever, hepatitus, jet-lag, bronchitus, alcohol, being knackered.... they still came up with the goods. Didn't they???? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nighthawk)Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:44:04 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24476,from=rss#post24476https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24476,from=rss#post24476Don't worry 'bout me; I'll be fine!!!   nondisclosed_email@example.com (Atle)Wed, 12 Nov 2003 21:51:37 +0000 Re: 1972 feverhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24475,from=rss#post24475https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p24475,from=rss#post24475Even though I may seriously think he screwed up, that doesn't mean that he seriously screwed up.
