1972 fever

I have always heard that Blackers had a high fever on the 15-16 & 17 August 1972.Was that a REAL fever he had or is it more of an image to describe his burning way of playing?
Some also say that it's the reason why he screwed up SOTW's intro (bullshit to me...but you never know).

What on earth are you talking about?? Screwed up SOTW?? On MIJ?? That's the least screwed up song I've ever heard, so you better explain yourself!!

Well, he did kinda screw up the intro. He covered for himself pretty well, though. I listened to it for years before I figured out that he didn't PLAN it that way!

It's not as bad as the screwup he did on "Mistreated" on the MkIII Final Concerts CD. I got rid of that CD just because of that!

Yeh I always thought that was accidental, but that he covered it really well and it made it kinda special!

You got rid of Mk. III: The Final Concerts because of the cock up at the begining of Mistreated?? Granted it's a bad screw up, but the rest of the song is good and version 2 on the second disc is a real blaster!

That's indeed what I was trying to say!Of course SOTW on MIJ is at its peak, but still I believe he "screwed up" the intro, somehow started another riff and saved it by one of his magical impros.
Jeeeez Louise, don't get all upset! You won't heard anything bad about dP from me!
I'm the one defending each and every song on "dP worst track" topic!
And still it doesn't answer the original question...Fever, yes or no?

Of course, you hear the intro...you know it's SOTW MIJ!
It makes it unique.
Still don't know if that fever is a legend or not... emoticon

Sort of like what I've always said about Blackmore - he even makes his mistakes sound correct!
I think I know what's being referred to as "the screw up", but I'd have to listen to the track and time it so anyone would know what I was talking about. Maybe the people who can't - or won't - believe there could possibly be a mistake are having a bit of the old "It fits because it was" syndrome. Or those of us who think they know what they're talking about are insane...wait a minute! If I know I'm insane, then that means I can't be insane, right? Right??? emoticon

Alright, then I love that "screw up"! It's really cool when that kind of things happens, like on California Jam when he makes a little change in the SOTW intro. That's what makes live recordings so great: improvisation!
