Re: The Strangest Cover of a Purple song you have heard.
I heard a techno/electronia cover of Child In Time, by a group, I think, called Inside. It as actually pretty good. It wasn't one of those "faithful" versions-I could never get the point of covering a song if you're just gonna do it exactly the same. I'd rather hear the original in that case

Everybody Loves Raymond (American telly show)
Rays cousin plays the Smoke riff on an accordian.
Drew Carey Show -The same guy who played Rays cousin walks into the bar on St Paddys day and is playing the Smoke riff on the accordian again.
Heard the Smoke riff on The Pink Panther cartoon played on a Sax.

Where are the Gregorian chants from? I've never heard CIT chanting.

Re: The Strangest Cover of a Purple song you have heard.
Isn't Black Sheep of the Family an Elf song that was then covered by Rainbow (even though Rainbow had it's begginings as Elf+Ritchie I still consider it a cover).
Heck, maybe Elf covered the song themselves. Don't have access to my Elf CD's at the moment.
I'm glad we don't hear many covers of DP stuff.
