As I posted many times before, other candidates are: Gary Moore Steve Vai Yngwie Malmsteen Uli Jon Roth Ronnie Montrosenondisclosed_email@example.com (Randys)Sun, 09 Nov 2003 04:39:21 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23905,from=rss#post23905https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23905,from=rss#post23905I'd just acquired three albums last month that's: Steve Morse - Southern Steel Eric Johnson - Alien Love Child-Live and Beyond Foghat - Foghat Live STEVE MORSE's "Southern Steel" opener "Cut to the Chase" is okay, so is the next track "Simple Simon", I thought that this will be a good but as I continue to listen it bores me again, about three or four of the tracks are okay, but it does not move me. I'd give this record a rating of 5, sorry. ERIC JOHNSON's "Live and Beyond" is a "great live record", from the opening track "Zenland" to the last track, EJ playing is awesome, he can even play the blues so well in "Once a Part of Me" and as a whole "Live and Beyond" is a perfect 10 in my book. My ratings are: Steve Morse - Southern Steel (5) Eric Johnson - Alien Love Child-Live and Beyond (10) Foghat - Foghat Live (10) it's 20 years since I heard this again, the best Foghat album! Steve Morse and Eric Johnson are good friends, some even says that EJ was influenced by SM. In my opinion Eric Johnson can do a better job in Deep Purple, his solos is better than Steve Morse on stage and in the studios.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Randys)Sun, 09 Nov 2003 04:37:23 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23904,from=rss#post23904https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23904,from=rss#post23904btw i didnt mean Adrian cant write etc...hes just a bit borin on the performing side! You could take you pick from thousands of guitarists if you just wanted someone to go on stage and do a good Blackmore inpersonation but to actually give some input on the writing side of things is a totally different matter. As I have mentioned before on the forums, Jeff Beck is not writing anything that could be associated with DP. Several of the other guys mentioned would also find it hard to come up with new ORIGINAL pieces that could be called Purple. Steve does things his own way both on stage and when writing. Is it Purple? well after all these years I think it must be, else they would have replaced him long ago. Ronnie Montrose and Janick Gers would be interesting choices at guitarst for Deep Purple. nondisclosed_email@example.com (bluetuna)Mon, 03 Nov 2003 14:24:11 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23900,from=rss#post23900https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23900,from=rss#post23900Caused by Schenker's arrogance?... Schenker would have been the perfect choice if you wanted Deep Purple to have self destructed by 1994.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RitchiesHair)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 21:43:20 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23898,from=rss#post23898https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23898,from=rss#post23898Rot is a huge fan of Ritchies, I know. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Trollprincess)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 19:11:08 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23897,from=rss#post23897https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23897,from=rss#post23897quote:Trollprincess wrote: What about Michael Schenker??? He is good playing heavy melodic guitar, but if the band wanted someone who would be a good at improvising then I would suggest looking elsewhere.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shadowcast)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 16:48:34 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23892,from=rss#post23892https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23892,from=rss#post23892I wouldn't want it to actually happen but it would be interesting to hear what His Royal Chubbiness would have been like in Purple. nondisclosed_email@example.com (RitchiesHair)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 15:01:31 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23891,from=rss#post23891https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23891,from=rss#post23891I suppose some of Gillan's guitarists could have taken the spot - Steve Morris, Janick Gers. I thought about Trower as he is a Strat player and the right age. What about Brian May? Ronnie Montrose might have worked. I'm used to Steve Morse now and Purple fans should be grateful, it could've been Malmsteen.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TeleCat)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 14:58:18 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23890,from=rss#post23890https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23890,from=rss#post23890Rory Gallagher was still alive when the position was available. Was he still well enough to play 7 months before he died? He'd have been great. Robin Trower would also have been an excellent choice, and if Ged Peck had not given up rock guitar, they would have been my ideal trio. Would have been a good trio in 1975 as well! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rahul)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 14:49:56 +0000 Re: Who other than Steve Morse?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23889,from=rss#post23889https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p23889,from=rss#post23889quote:speedking70 wrote: They should have wound the band up there and then. I've heard Gillan mention Jeff Beck but he turned it down. I can't see that anyway. For starters Jeff Beck would never tour as much as they do, Blackmore has nothing on him when it comes to fighting with lead singers and lately he's just too experimental to fit within the confines of a rock band. nondisclosed_email@example.com (TeleCat)Sun, 02 Nov 2003 13:54:56 +0000
