Co-headlining with Purple that year was NOT within
their power(.)

It certainly was within their power, especially in the New England area, Larry. Aerosmith had a huge following, and had had one since sometime in '71. Personally, I'd always regard Purple as the headliner, especially in the era we're discussing. But again, that's just a matter of personal taste.

Check furtheR up the thread MrEd,
Purple were the biggest act on the planet Bar none,
and Aeroshit had not even left this country yet so
how do you figure, just cause they were hot doesn't mean
they were worhty of CO-HEADLINING WITH THE BIGGEST BAND
IN THE WORLD.

Btw Joe Perry is a theif,

I know that, Larry. But attempting to slag off others just to give props to Purple isn't very cricket, is it?

As I said, I would without a doubt consider Purple the headliner, but that's me. We're not talking about the rest of the world here, just the New England area. I'm not trying to put down your knowledge of the era or area, but I lived there at the time, and believe me, the furor that Aerosmith had created was nearly on a par with the furor that Purple had created in the same area 3 or 4 years before. Aerosmith was certainly one kick ass act at the time, and that's not to imply that they'd blow Purple off the stage or anything. But to their hard core fans, they were certainly in Purple's league, whether they had toured in Mesapotamia or not. You gotta remember, Purple had experienced a slight downturn in popularity due to the personnel changes that had taken place less than a year before...MkIII wasn't held in nearly the regard they are now...and all that hoopla about Purple being the biggest band in the world had it's share of controversy, also. When the award was announced, Billboard used a publicity shot of MkIII, which lineup had essentially done nothing to earn the award, as the vast majority of those sales figures had been generated by the MkII lineup's album sales. That incident caused even the mild mannered Glover to express his dismay over the situation.
We are both talking about 1974 or so, right?

Are you sure that Deep Purple was not headlining the Tour of the Stadiums in the latter part of 1987? I could swear that Deep Purple was playing at night and Aerosmith during the evening.

Re: GnR, Aerosmith, And Purple????

Hey MrEd I attempt to do no such thing,
I have seen Aeroshit 5 times.I have also met them and
they are nothing.
When I tell you that Joe Perry is a thief I'm talking from
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.I COMPARE PURPLE TO NOBODY WHATSOVER!

I've been around, and these guy's are the most overrated rock band there ever was.
When I saw them in Hawaii at the football stadium in Honalulu, they were at there worst.
THAT WAS THE NIGHT JOE STOLE FROM ME!

Here's how I see it,
everything they recorded up till Draw The Line was great.
A Night In The Rut's with Jimmy Crespo was better than anything they have done since then, and anyone who likes them know's that album was substandard, leaving them to be
just that to this very day.
I'm not a blind Deep Purple worshiper,I call them as I see them, and I've been to over 300 concert's including,
Elvis
Jerry Lee Lewis
Chuck Berry
Fat's Domino
Ray Charles and the list goes on.
I have partied backstage with the best of em'
including meeting Deep Purple twice and playing foosball
with Ritchie Blackmore.

You can have Aeroshit for breakfast as far as I'm concerened, but don't tell me I'm comparing anoyone.
I have fully expressed my feeling's in these forum's about
my position when it comes to making comparison's
I'll say it once more.

It is a waste of time to compare because there is nothing you can do to change anything anyone does.
No offence to you MrEd I just hope you see where I'm coming from. emoticon

To Nigel Young
all the eveidence I have is all the evidence I need.

I was working at Music Millenium in Portland in 1982
we were a direct colliseum ticket outlet.
If those Rainbow show's were booked then the ticket's
were never even printed.
I also have a close personal friend that worked for
Double T production's named Lowell McGregor and he got me in with and kept me up on the whole scene.

The very next year Rainbow booked a show at the Salem Armory with Cheap Trick, that venue is a two thousand seater
and the show cancelled due to a lack of ticket sales.
The colliseum is an eleven thousand seater,no way could
Rainbow have filled two show's there.
The only time Rainbow played in Portland Oregon was
on the DTC tour and they opened for Pat Traver's
some day I will go over the event's that took place at that excellent show but I don't have time right now to go into it.

Nigel, if you read this
please tell me your source of said Rainbow 2 night's in Portland 1982 show's.
I would like to know where you got your misinformation. emoticon

Didn't Nigel say it was Portland Maine? I would check the tour dates to see if they were in the North east at the time.
I saw a show at the Tower Theatre in Philly (1st night)on the DTC tour that was the absolute best I had ever heard Ritchie play. I vividly remember the looks my brother, our buddy and myself kept giving each other every time RB pulled off an incredible run. We were actually laughing in amazement. My buddy and I were talking about that after not having seen each other since Rainbows SIUA tour and we hooked up again for DP's last US tour.

That would be Portland Maine 1987
when they did Mad Dog,I said I have seen that one listed as being Portland Oregon and I'm not dreaming,it's the one
where they played Mad Dog and I have known all along it was
Portland Maine.
The listing was incorrect and he was just confirming that.

The show's Im speaking of (if you had read my post)
is Rainbow 1982 in Portland,Two night's.

IT NEVER HAPPENED WHATSOEVER AND I DON'T CARE WHAT HE SAY'S
BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE HE GOT HIS MISINFORMATION.
