Re: Morse Purple vs.No Purple

I can understand and respect your feelings, MrSnip. I too feel the same way occasionally. But I just learned - right, wrong or indifferent - that it's a new band, in a way, but with a tremendous load to shoulder as far as past glories turning into unreasonable expectations from some people (I don't think you're one of them).
I disagree about your opinions regarding "Abandon" and "Apefood" - oops, "Bananas"! I like them both a lot more than I like "Purpendicular"...I know that probably puts me in a great minority, but so what? It's hard to put into words, but I didn't find "Purpendicular" all that "refreshing". I thought it was a lot of "Let's try to be different, just for difference's sake". Maybe Gillan had too much influence on the album, as it heas a lot of echoes of the stuff he did while away from Purple that's not my favorite of his "solo" material. It seemed to echo a lot of IGB stuff and material from "Accidentally On Purpose" (which I know receives a fair amount of kudos on the forum, but not from me).
So I'm not saying that you're one of the people who expect them to still perform like it's the 70s or even the 80s, but maybe not holding them up to previous standards might let you enjoy what they're doing a little bit more. It's difficult to do that sometimes, I know. But it might be fairer not only to the band, but to yourself.

Re: Morse Purple vs.No Purple

You're right, I don't expect them to make 30 min solo's etc, and I wouldn't even want it today (nor in the 80ies). D.P. Never really reunited, in that sence, and that was a conscious choice by the five of them. When listening to the few boots, we've managed to get up under our nails, I think I can justifiably complain, that they (maybe mostly my favourite singer of all time), had lost it from '84 and onwards. Gillan has only been a shadow of himself since '73. I know I'll get flack for that statement, but it's difficult not to realize that he must be deaf, if he can't hear how awfull it sounds, when he does those "screams". I complain about Hughes' "whoops", but bloody well also have to complain about Gillan's "hhhrrrrrrrrrrr".

Added later:
I actually think, that Purpendicular has less "Gillan" than both /-\ and ))). Abandon had me think of Naked Thunder, whereas Bananas had me thinking of Toolbox.
Not that that are nescesarrily (or however it's spelled) bad, but just not D.P.

(And for Larry)
A boot is not the same thing as being there, it's better!

A few boot's,huh your one to talk Mrsnip.
I have over 300 of them,
I never have and probably never will agree with one single word you have to say, accept for the shadow thing but only partially.
Isn't every man but a mere shadow of his former self after around the age of 25 to 30?
I think it's hilarious how you've been a shadow of yourself
in these forum's lately, taking a decent discussion topic from me to lure you back in all of a sudden.
Everynoe has an opinion here but yours is bitter, almost as if
you think Deep Purple owe you something personally that you and I both know they can't give because of your negetive attitude in the first place.
I don't understand your hypocricy,
you say they have nothing to offer you but you're still forking out the money to go see them,(THIS MONTH)
what kind of bullshit is that?
I suggest you save your precious money and just pack it in when it comes to this band, you are definetly living in the past. That's okay for you I'm sure but why even bother
with them.
Btw this is one of the longest post's I've seen from you
so I must have something worthy of your opinion
to discuss after all.
I say if your gonna complain then save your money for whatever band it is you wish to see,in Purples place.
Hey,just what band is that I wonder? It must be someone,
I have a feeling I know but why don't you tell us
please?TALK ABOUT PATHETIC. emoticon

Cheers Curtis,
this is why MrSnip is at the top of my list of cantidates
for the rediculous posing as mrk2forever by calling
theirself the Remorseless Crusader.

Notice how MrSnip is nowhere to be found,
and then suddenly the RC appears leaving his trail of crap in several ereas on the board, something mark2forever never
had a tendancy to do.
(posting in more than one or two topic's)
Then all of a sudden MrSnip takes the oppritunity to appear
when he sees an interesting topic from me,to make his point.
He get's my latest vote for being the Remorseless Crusader.
If you monitor his activity lately, you can see that it
atleast fit's. emoticon

To answer a few of your stupid question's MrSnip,

I turn 40 this month,on the birthdate/month and day
of Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Lee my grand mother and Thanksgiving.

I don't pretend to know you,I call 'em as I see'em.

The only thing unfitting about your opinion is that it's negetive, and that is my only real problem with you.

The ticket's that you already baught were paid for
while you still had the negetive opinion you sport.
(defines hypocricy)

Deep Puple are as good as ever, but that's still up for debate depending on who you ask and you are a minority in this thread.

Your artist's choices only prove me right,
with the exception of Abba
but they are still in a completely different catagory
and should not be included when talking about a band of Purples calibre.

Yet even more hypocritcal calling Gillan your favorite singer, yet calling him pathetic.

I may be wrong about you being the Remorseless crusader
but if the shoe fit's(and it does)you may as well wear it.

As for saying I have !@#$ for brain's
well I must be older than you but I take it I'm not
cause of statement's you have made about seeing Deep Purple
as far back as the early 70's,oh er maybe that was MrsSnap.
Atleast I have the decancy and maturity not to resort
to personal attacking by calling you such unorigonal
and uncreative thing's like "!@#$ for brain's".
It's not that I don't like you,I don't even know you
(thank god)and lucky for you cause I would probably flatten you instead of just roasting you in these forum's,
I just simply don't agree with you,is that so hard to understand?Don't bother responding,I will fry you again
and it will just go on and on,like your negetive
(current)Purple bashing. emoticon

Re: Morse Purple vs.No Purple

Was someone comparing Doug Flutie to Deep Purple? Not sure what that has to do with anything but it is good to see somebody older prove that being 40 or even 50 is not what we would say is a Death Sentence. George Foreman proved that an old guy is sometimes superior to any young guy. As for the band Deep Purple, having not heard Bananas yet, as you know I am the Last One not to have bought it, I could say this, without Blackmore they are missing alot. What they are missing the most is THE SOUND of DEEP PURPLE. The sound that Steve Morse injected into the band is really what I would call, HOLLOW. Not so much in the studio, but in the live arena he comes off unmagical. I like some of the work Steve has done in Purple, Loosen My Strings was very good, as was Hey Cisco, Evil Louie was splendid, but if I could compare Steve Morse to anything, I guess it would have to be Chinese Food. No matter how much Chinese Food you eat, you find yourself STILL HUNGRY about an hour later. And so the same is true with Steve Morse no matter how many times I hear his work, especially after his live work I find myself starving for Ritchie Blackmore or Satch.
